Immigration mobile biometrics planned in Kona
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services will conduct a six-month mobile biometrics pilot program for immigration benefits on Hawaii Island, Kauai, and Maui from May through September.
Currently, immigrants who require biometric intake and interview services must travel to Honolulu.
Mobile biometrics collection will be held in Kailua-Kona April 24-28, June 19-23 and Aug. 21-25 for those who have received a biometrics appointment receipt.
Monk seal talk planned
Kona Historical Society is partnering with The Marine Mammal Center’s Ke Kai Ola: The Hawaiian Monk Seal Hospital to present “A Natural History of the Hawaiian Monk Seal,” for the the April installment of the Hanohano O Kona Lecture Series.
The free lecture is at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the West Hawaii Civic Center.
Ke Kai Ola’s outreach and rescue staff will explore the natural history of the Native Hawaiian monk seal, including the historical and cultural significance of this endangered species.

Cancer support group meets Tuesday
A cancer support group meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Teshima’s Restaurant in Honalo. People newly diagnosed with cancer and cancer survivors are welcome, as well as interested caregivers and supportive family members.
The group meets to share cancer-related issues and to lend support to one another. Women are encouraged to learn about breast cancer risks and early detection to help make informed decisions with their doctors about breast health.
