Lazar Bear presents Maria Muldaur and her Red Hot Bluesiana Band for two performances in late May on the Big Island.

From her 1974 hit, “Midnight at the Oasis,” to today, Muldaur is on tour in support of her latest release, “Steady Love.” Self-produced by Muldaur, “Steady Love” is one of the most accessible, joyful and soul satisfying releases in her ever growing catalog of memorable music.

Muldaur will perform May 27 at Honokaa People’s Theatre and May 28 at Kilauea Theatre at Kilauea Military Camp within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. A portion of the proceeds from the May 28 concert will benefit the Volcano School of Arts and Sciences and the Volcano Rotary Mike Nelson Scholarship Fund.

Muldaur’s 52-year career is described as a long and adventurous odyssey through the various forms of American Roots Music. During the folk revival of the early 1960s, she began exploring and singing early blues, bluegrass and Appalachian music, beginning her recording career in 1963 with the Even Dozen Jug Band and shortly thereafter, joining the very popular Jim Kweskin Jug Band, touring and recording with them throughout the ’60s.

In the 42 years since “Midnight at the Oasis,” she has toured worldwide and has recorded 40 solo albums covering all kinds of American Roots Music, including gospel, R&B, jazz and Big Band, as well as several award-winning children’s albums, before settling comfortably into her favorite idiom, the blues, in recent years.
