A man was sent to Kona Community Hospital in critical condition following a car crash Saturday morning in Ka’u.
The man, whose age was not immediately available, was the driver of a vehicle that apparently ran off Highway 11 in Hawaiian Ocean View Estates early Saturday, according to the Hawaii Fire Department. Fire rescue personnel were dispatched to the scene at 2:46 a.m.
The wreck occurred between Leilani Parkway and Ginger Blossom Boulevard, according to the Hawaii Police Department. Highway 11 was closed until shortly before 7 a.m. Saturday.
Police and fire officials both said the car veered off the highway. A police sergeant Saturday afternoon confirmed the crash was not fatal.
