Carolina Eley

Carolina D. Eley, 63, of Kailua-Kona died April 27, 2017, at Hospice of Kona’s Nakamaru Hale. Born in Cebu, Philippines, she was a waitress at the former Keauhou Beach Hotel, Royal Kona Resort, and a housekeeper at King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church.

Visitation will be held at 8:30 a.m. May 11 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Kailua-Kona; Mass at 10 a.m. followed by burial at the West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery. The family requests casual attire.

She is survived by husband, Gary Eley of Kailua-Kona; daughter, Judith Gibo of Kailua-Kona; brothers, Alexander (Bebing) Delos Reyes, Raul (Mila) Delos Reyes, and Rodrigo Delos Reyes, all of the Philippines, Generoso (Eda) Delos Reyes of Kailua-Kona; sisters, Matilde Claracay and Caridad (Lucio) Delos Cientos, all of Kailua-Kona, and Marietta (Wilfred) Schroder of Germany; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Norma Pabro

Norma Almoite Pabro, 59, of Keaau died April 27, 2017, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Binalonan, Pangasinan, the Philippines, she was a grader with Diamond Head Papaya and a produce processor at Hilo Products.

Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. May 11 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 7 p.m. service. Friends may also call at 10 a.m. May 12 at the Alae Cemetery for a graveside committal service. The family requests casual attire and that flowers be omitted.

She is survived by daughters, Anna Liza Pabro of Keaau, Maria Pabro of Keaau, Gaudencia (Tyson) Watarida of Hilo, and Toni (Kaili) Smith of Washington; step son, Antonio (Evelyn) Pabro of Keaau; brothers, Rudy (Adelaida) Almoite, Elpidio (Malou) Almoite, all of the Philippines; sister, Editha (Joed) De Vera of the Philippines; three grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Aukai Ahuna

Aukai Michael Kalaule’alanioka’ohana Ahuna, 15, of Honokaa died May 1, 2017, at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born May 12, 2001, in Waimea, he was a member of the Honokaa High School football and basketball team. He also was a member of the Ensembles, the leadership training team and Hawaiian Sunset Basketball team.

Friends may call for visitation from 3-5 p.m. May 12 at at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa with a 5 p.m. Mass. Casual attire flowers and lei are welcomed. A celebration of life will follow.

He is survived by father, George Ahuna of Waimea; mother, Keala (Ivan Alatan) Ahuna of Honokaa; brothers, Kalai Ahuna and Nainoa Ahuna of Honokaa; sisters, Rochelle Martin of New York and Mikela Ahuna of Ookala; maternal grandmother, Angella Brandt of Honokaa; maternal grandfather, Don (Karen Hamada) Canario of Hilo; paternal grandmother, Muriel (Hector Ortiz) Ahuna of Waimea; maternal great-grandmother, Betty Jose of Honokaa; one niece, numerous nephews, cousins, uncles and aunts.

Margaret Branco

Margaret Branco, 93, of Pahoa died April 21, 2017, at the Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Hilo, she was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Pahoa Nutritional Center.

Friends may call from 8:30-9:30 a.m. May 12 at St. Joseph Catholic Church where a Mass will be held at 10 a.m., followed by burial at the Alae Cemetery. The family requests casual attire. Condolences may also be sent to Jody Gonsalves, RR3 Box 1318, Pahoa, HI 96778.

She is survived by son, Manuel (Katherine) Branco of Hilo; daughters, Jody (Leonard) Gonsalves of Pahoa, Barbara (Phil Creely) Vincent of Keaau, Rose Leopoldino of Hilo; brothers, Albert Vicente of Honolulu, William (Remy) Vicente of Hilo; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Joseph Nahale

Joseph “Joe” Kuualoha Nahale, 60, of Captain Cook died March 24, 2017, at Life Care Center of Kona. Born April 20, 1956, on Kahaluu Beach in Kailua-Kona, he was the owner of Pueo Tile Co. He was a stone mason and tile setter. He was a member of Island Brothers, head coach for Konawaena JV football, Pop Warner football coach, assistant coach for Kamalii O Kona softball, Central Kona Union Church director of Ohana Choir, Aloha Week Festival’s Moi Kane, FFA state president for Konawaena, Konawaena wrestling team, and player for the Konawaena football team and was honored for his research of Kaloko Honokohau National Park.

A 9 a.m. memorial service will be held on May 13 at Kahikolu Congregational Church in Napoopoo. The family requests casual attire be worn and flowers be omitted.

He is survived by sons, Kadon Zimmerman of Honolulu, and Wyattlane (Lorna) Nahale of Kailua-Kona; daughter, Naressalei (Armenio Blanco) Nahale of Kailua-Kona; brothers, Charles (Karen) Nahale of Honaunau, Lyle (Dawn) Gomes, Lance (Donna) Gomes, all of Kailua-Kona; sisters, Deborah (Stanford) Sasaki of Kalaoa, Sonyamae Fukushima of Captain Cook, Jasmine Bledsoe of McAlester, Okla.; half-brothers, Tommy (Lei) Gomes of Honalo, Francis Ng, Moe Nahale, Heine Shim, and Rodney Shim, all of Kailua-Kona; half-sisters, Barbara (Morgan) Leleiwi, Thelma (Bobby) Macomber, all of Kailua-Kona, and Earlene Kaiawe of Kalaoa; nine grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
