Thomas “Ben” Mitsuo Fujiwara, 89, of Hilo died April 1, 2017, at the Hale Aneuneu Restorative Care Center. Born in Hilo, he was a retired parts department salesperson for HT&T Trucking and a former salesperson at the Hilo Ace Hardware.
Friends may call from 4–5 p.m. May 19 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 5 p.m. memorial service. Casual attire.
He is survived by daughters, Jo-Ann (Kimo) Kelekolio of Beaverton, Ore., Lori (Derrick) Tamashiro of Hilo; brother, Donald Fujiwara of Kailua-Kona; sister, Rachel (Wilfred) Soong of Honolulu; five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

John Gomes
John Michael Gomes, 65, of Mountain View died April 28, 2017. Born in Honolulu, he was a recently retired sales representative.

Richard Gouveia
Richard “Mr. G” P. Gouveia, 80, of Hilo died April 17, 2017, at Legacy Hilo Rehabilitation &Nursing Center. Born Aug. 12, 1936, in Maui, he was a cane truck driver for the former Puna Sugar Co. in Keaau, and a veteran in the Hawaii Army National Guard and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Kilauea Ward, in Hilo.
Friends may call for visitation from 5-6 p.m. May 20 at Dodo Mortuary chapel with a 6 p.m. service. Casual attire. Private burial at a later date.
He is survived by sons, Darcy Gouveia of Las Vegas, Donny (Perla) Gouveia of Orchidland; daughters, Darilyn (Bert) Naihe and Kimberly (Kalford Amana) Gouveia of Hilo; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Shayde-Lynn Baker
Shayde-Lynn Kaniakama Basque Wong Baker, 24, of Seattle died April 26, 2017, at UW Medical Center in Seattle. Born March 10, 1993, in Kealakekua, she was a singer/songwriter, hula dancer and musician.
A celebration of life will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 20 at Kona Faith Center in Captain Cook. Spreading of ashes be at the break of dawn May 22 at Kaloko Pond.
She is survived by husband, Samuel Baker of Seattle; mother: Joleen (Naungayan) Reinke of Haines, Alaska; father, Jamin Wong of Kailua-Kona; grandparents: Daveyann Basque of Kealakekua, Elpidio Naungayan of Florida, Jamisen and Josanne Wong of Kailua-Kona, great-grandparents, Austacia Travens, Grace Basque, Winona Wong; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Ernest Kawakami
Ernest Akira Kawakami, 80, of Kainaliu died May 4, 2017, at his residence. Born Jan. 14, 1937, in Kainaliu, he was a self-employed coffee farmer, a member of Daifukuji Soto Mission, Kainaliu Makai Kumi, Hiroshima Kenjin Kai and Kumamoto Kenjin Kai.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. May 20 at Daifukuji Soto Mission in Honalo with an 11 a.m. funeral service. The family requests casual attire.
He is survived by wife, Hideko Kawakami of Kona; daughters, Patsy (Kevin) Sayphone of Kona, and Jeanette (Mark) Mochida of Hilo; brother, Arthur (Joy) Kawakami of Kona; sister, Nancy (Walter) Masaki of Oahu; five grandchildren.

Lorraine Hayes
Lorraine Kehaulani Hayes, 40, of Keaau died April 7, 2017, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, she was the manager/owner of East Hawaii Services and a member of the Keaau Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She was also a former server at the Fairmont Orchid Hawaii, and a former dietary aide at the Life Care Center of Hilo.
