A person died following a one car accident Sunday night in Volcano, the Hawaii Fire Department reported.

The accident happened around 9 p.m. on Highway 11 at mile marker 33.

When emergency personnel responded, the found a white single cab Toyota pickup off the road laying on the driver side. One person was pinned under the mid-section of the vehicle without signs of life.

Another occupant was outside of the vehicle laying face down and not moving, complaining of pain to his legs. A third occupant self-extricated and ambulatory. No fire, or other other vehicle was involved.

The cause of the accident is under investigation by national park rangers.
