Chase Hook-Banuvong

Chase K. Hook-Banuvong, 14, of Pahoa died April 16, 2017, at The Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu. Born in Waimea, he was a student at Pahoa High and Intermediate School. He was also a member of the Boys and Girls Club of Pahoa.

Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. June 3 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for an 11 a.m. service. The family requests casual attire.

He is survived by mother, Emily Banuvong of Pahoa; father, Charles Edward Hook Jr. of Hawi; maternal grandparents, Prasith and Annette Banuvong of Pahoa; paternal grandmother, Paula Hook of Hawi; brothers and sisters; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Franklyn Usman

Franklyn Luciano Usman, 99, of Pahala died April 25, 2017, at Ka‘u Hospital. Born Jan. 14 1918, in Wahiawa, Oahu, he was a retired mechanic for the former Ka ‘u Sugar Plantation Co. and a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Pahala.

Friends may call for visitation from 8-10 a.m. June 3 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Pahala with a 10 a.m. Mass. Casual attire; flowers and lei are welcomed.

He is survived by wife, Martina Calma Usman of Pahala; sons, Frank Robert (Ronelle) Calma of Hilo, Frank Usman Jr. of San Diego, Jordan (Camillia) Usman of Waikoloa, Oscar (Yvonne) Usman of Houston; daughter, Rosa (Kevin Stewart) Usman of Bremerton, Wash.; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Agnes Kailiawa

Agnes “Gramma Agnes” Cordeiro Kailiawa, 93, of Kailua-Kona died May 6, 2017, at Rosita’s Care Home. Born June 5, 1923, in Kealakekua, she was a homemaker and a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church.

Visitation will be held at 8:30 a.m. June 3 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Kealakekua with an 11 a.m. Mass. Burial will follow at Kona Memorial Park in Holualoa. Luncheon and fellowship will be held at Kaniohale Community Center at Laiopua, Hawaiian Homes in Kailua-Kona. The family requests casual attire and flowers are welcome.

She is survived by son, Alfred DeMello of Kailua-Kona; daughters, Dolores DeMello of Kealakekua, Helen May (William) Nakagawa of Kailua-Kona, and Jeanette Ballesteros of Hilo; hanai daughter, Melani (Victor) Kauhaihao-Murillo of Las Vegas; 27 grandchildren; 85 great-grandchildren; 77 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Victor Llanes

Victor Leroy Llanes, 67, of Keauhou died April 19, 2017, at his residence. Born Oct. 8, 1949, in North Kona, he was a hotel maintenance man, a luau prep assistant, musical entertainer, coffee farmer, bartender for the Sheraton Waikoloa and a fisherman. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, USTA Tennis League, Philippine/American Friendship Tournament Association and National Association Tournament, U.S. Bowling Tournament Association, and Llanes Coffee Estates Bowling League Commissioner.

Visitation will be at 9 a.m. June 3 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Kailua-Kona with a 10:30 a.m. Mass. Burial will follow in the church’s cemetery. Luncheon and fellowship will be held at the Big Game Fishing Clubhouse at Honokohau Harbor. The family requests casual attire and flowers are welcome.

He is survived by wife, Lori Llanes of Keauhou; son, Justin (Melody Schott) Llanes of Keauhou; daughters, Shivonne (Reid Nagano) Llanes of Waikoloa, Victoria (Clifford Harrington) Llanes of Captain Cook; brothers, David (Edwina) Llanes of Opihihale, Antone (Frances) Llanes of Holualoa, Kenneth (Bernie) Llanes of Kona Palisades, Donald Llanes of Kalaoa, Kona, Rueben (MaryJane) Llanes of Ocean View, Rudy (Lynne) Llanes of Keauhou Mauka, Freddy Llanes of Kansas, and Gerald (Karen) Llanes of Makaha, Oahu; sisters, Mary Llanes of Waimea, Geralyn (Ken) Llanes of Arizona, Angela Llanes and Vanessa Llanes, both of Keauhou Mauka; seven grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
