Hiroko Oishi

Hiroko Oishi, 81, of Pahoa died May 24, 2017, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, she was a retired anthurium grower and a member of the Puna Hongwanji Mission and the Higashi Machi Kumiai.

Friends may call from 4-5 p.m. June 3 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 5 p.m. service. The family requests casual attire and that flowers be omitted.

She is survived by husband, Stanley Oishi of Pahoa; son, Calvin (Laura) Oishi of Keaau; Daughter, Annette (Kris Yokoo) Oishi Oak Park, Ill.; three grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Kenneth Tanouye

Kenneth Susumu Tanouye, 78, of Hilo died April 24, 2017, at the Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Facility. Born April 23, 1939, in Hilo, he was the President of K&J Tire Center, Inc. in Hilo. He was a member of Church of the Holy Cross, Boy Scouts of America and Big Island Coin Club. He was a former member of the Hilo Jaycees.

Visitation will be from 2:30-4 p.m. June 3 at the Church of the Holy Cross with a 4 p.m. service. Casual attire is requested.

He is survived by wife, Lois Tanouye of Hilo; son, Stefan (Jennifer) Tanouye of Hilo; daughter, Kelley Tanouye of Las Vegas; brother, Raymond (Mifune) Tanouye of Hilo; sisters, Kay (Dan) Sakai of Hilo and Lei Tanouye of Honolulu; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Roy Cunningham

Roy T. Cunningham of Hilo, died May 11, 2017, at home. Born in Pennsylvania, he was a research entomologist with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Tropical Fruit and Vegetable Research Laboratory in Hilo, and a former chairman of the state’s Medfly Science Advisory Panel.

Private services to be held.

He is survived by wife, DeEtta Cunningham, of Hilo; sons, Benedict Cunningham of Tennessee, Dominic (Kristine) Cunningham of Honolulu, Paka (Elke Gebhardt) Cunningham of Honolulu; daughters, Lorain (Walter) Karstens of Illinois, Anne Kaili of Ohio, Daria (Milton) Crutchfield of Hilo and Sarah (Alan) Vaughn of Malaysia; brother, Richard (Marge) Cunningham of Virginia; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
