Keep new judiciary complex on schedule
Apparently, some people have not experienced the cramped facilities at the Kealakekua Courthouse.
We need a new courthouse more than a mental asylum. We have Kaneohe on Oahu that will take mentally ill folks.
The old courthouse is located where the parking is so limited that everyone has to search for a place to park and it’s not even funny.
Been there and done that! The new planned complex will have enough parking for everyone concerned and should be kept on schedule to be built.

Double the savings — and no need for a bypass
I have been following the proposed new bypass on Kawaihae that will run from Mahua to somewhere near the airport. As usual there is bickering and a “not in my backyard” sentiment, which is understandable. I know this is probably too simple for our state DOT to consider, but why do we need a bypass anyhow?
The new Daniel K. Inouye Highway from the upper road to Hilo, which cost a ton, and the new extension down to the Queen Kaahumanu Highway, projected to cost another $100 million, provides a simple solution. Just require all trucks to use Queen Kaahumanu and the Daniel K. Inouye to go to and from Hilo unless they have a special permit for deliveries to Waimea or the Hamakua Coast and strictly enforce this restriction.
Not only would truck traffic be cut through Waimea, the Hamakua Coast road and associated bridges would be spared the impact of truck traffic. Double savings, no need for bypass and less road maintenance.
Problem solved.
