KAILUA-KONA — A Hawaii driver accused of causing a crash that killed one man last month was released from jail.

Hawaii News Now reports 26-year-old Keempe Drequitos got out of jail Friday after his bail was reduced from $286,000 to $60,000.

Police say Drequito was driving a 2003 Mazda sedan south on Keaau-Pahoa Highway (Highway 130) that rear-ended a 1990 Toyota pickup at the Shower Drive/Pohaku Drive intersection in May. The crash killed 31-year-old Travis Serquina. Drequito was later charged with negligent homicide, manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident and reckless driving.

Dequitos’ lawyer says he is on supervised released and the court does not consider him a flight risk. He says Drequitos’ has had multiple traffic violations in the past, but has never been convicted of a violent crime.
