The victim of a single-vehicle accident on May 6 in Ka’u has been identified as Jonathan A.K. Brown, 31.

Brown was taken to Kona Community Hospital and later transported to The Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu in critical condition after he was ejected from the vehicle following the crash between Leilani Parkway and Ginger Blossom Boulevard.

Fire officials said Brown was the lone occupant of the vehicle that apparently ran off Highway 11 about 2:46 a.m. May 6.

Notification was received Monday from the Oahu medical facility that the victim died May 22.

Police are also conducting an investigation into the vehicle, which was reported stolen prior to the accident.

This is the 19th fatality this year as compared to 10 fatalities this same time last year.
