Man charged with kidnapping, sexual assault

KAILUA-KONA — A 40-year-old man was taken into custody last week on suspicion of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a family or household member.

According to a complaint filed in the 3rd Circuit Court the incident occurred on June 8.

Daniel Paul Jones-Bivings has been charged with kidnapping. According to charging documents the suspect intentionally or knowingly restrained the victim with the intent to inflict bodily injury.

Other charges include assault in the second degree and abuse to a family or household member. Court documents indicate Jones-Bivings impeded the victim’s breathing “by applying pressure on the throat and/or neck.”

He was also charged with sexual assault in the first degree.

Jones-Bivings had his first court appearance on Tuesday. Bail was set at $120,000 and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for today at 2:30 p.m.
