Kealakekua library shows free movie

The Kealakekua Public Library will present a movie screening of Disney’s live action film, Beauty and the Beast. The movie is at 1 p.m. today.

Tree care safety workshop planned

The Hawaii Island Landscape Association, the University of Hawaii Cooperative Extension Service, along with the Aloha Arborist Association and Western Chapter- International Society of Arboriculture will host a tree care safety workshop on June 30.

Featured speaker John Ball is a professor of forestry at South Dakota State University where he instructs courses in arboriculture and forestry. Topics will include how to use ANSI standards to keep you safe and how to fell a tree and reduce incidents and fatalities. Also included is working safely from an aerial lift, chipper and chain saw safety, working around electrical conductors, and emergencies and aerial rescues.

Continuing education units will be available for certified workers.

The workshop will be from 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. at the Hawaii Community College – Palamanui campus. Cost is $105 for Western Chapter- International Society of Arboriculture members, $120 for landscape association members and $130 for nonmembers prior to June 17. Regular registration fees after that date are $145/$160 for members and $175 for nonmembers. Lunch is included.

Chamber of Commerce networking event set

The public is invited to the Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce’s networking event, AfterHours, hosted by Habitat for Humanity West Hawaii 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the new ReStore location at 73-4161 Ulu Wini Place in Kailua-Kona.

Pupu and cold libations will be offered to attendees as they get a chance to explore the new ReStore. A silent auction is also slated.

The Chamber’s monthly pau hana, which meets every third Wednesday of the month, is a networking event affording attendees the chance to link with others in the business community.
