Advanced Basketball Development Training program

The Advance Basketball Development Training program will be held at Old Airport Park’s Kekuaokalani gym

June 17 and 24 from 9:30-11:45 a.m. This is a free year-round program open to kids ages 10-17 with basketball

Hapuna Rough Water Swim

The Hapuna Rough Water Swim, the second leg of the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming summer series, will take place on Sunday, June 18 at 8:45 a.m.. Along with the 1-mile race, there will also be a 400-meter swim for keiki. To register, visit flpregister.com/277.

HIH College Prep Hoops Camp

Hawaii Island Hoops will hold its annual College Prep Hoops Camp at Kealakehe High School June 19-23.

The overnight camp, led by director Andy Smith, is focused on helping student-athletes improve their skills, while introducing them to a college style program, workouts and training.

College coaches from the NCAA, NAIA and Junior College level will be attending the camp, which is $350 for the week. Daily meals will be included in the fee, as well as daily seminars on financial aid and athletic recruitment. There will also be a Hapuna Beach trip.

Soccer ID Camp

Hawaii Preparatory Academy will host a soccer camp June 26-30 for kids ages 5-18. Each day the camp will run from 9 a.m. to noon for ages 5-12 and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. for ages 13-18.

San Diego Club Director Jeff Illingworth will run the camp and will be helped by UC Santa Barbara head coach Tim Von Steeg, UC San Diego goalkeeper coach Trenton Painter, and Jennifer Jacques, a member of the Kona Crush staff.

LavaKids Summer Camp

LavaKids will be presenting its first summer camp for kids ages 5-10. The camp will be held June 27-29 from 8-10:30 a.m. at the Old Airport lower soccer field (behind Kona Community Aquatic Center). Partnering with PATH and local athletes, each day will be filled with activities including bike skills, running, games and nutrition geared to promote an active and healthy lifestyle.

Cost is by donation. Registration limited to first 50 keiki to sign up. A wait list will be created once filled.

Bob May at Waikoloa Beach Resort

Bob May is once again offering private hourly golf lessons for adults, juniors and couples, in addition to multiple lesson packages, including a 9-hole playing lesson, from July 1-31 at either Waikoloa Beach or Kings’ Course. For more information call 702-595-1950.

FilAm Friendship Doubles Tennis Tournament

The 11th annual FilAm Friendship Doubles Tennis Tournament will take place July 15-16 at Holua.

The tournament will host the following formats: regular doubles teams (not team tennis), men’s, women’s, mixed, 6.0, 7.0, 7.5, 8.0, 8.5 and open.

Hawaii Cycling Club’s Sea-to-Stars race

Hawaii Cycling Club, along with Bike Works, is once again hosting the 48-mile, 9,800 foot elevation climb, Sea-to-Stars bicycle race on Aug. 5.

Cyclists may sign up at usacycling.com for the $70 early-bird price, discounted from the regular $95 fee, until May 31. Discounts are also available for HCC members,students, and the military. The field will be limited to 50 riders.

Registration will be done online only, and will end on Aug. 1. There will be no registration on the day of the race.

Emily T Gail Show

Winona Chen, of Bike Works Beach and Sport, talks about the training event she had at Hapuna Beach for athletes who were preparing for the Ironman 70.3 Hawaii triathlon. An Ironman veteran, Winona talks about what she has learned about organizing events and how sharing her experience as an athlete is a chance for her to give back to the sport. Winona also has information on the free Honu expo at the Fairmont Orchid this week beginning Wednesday where Bike Works Triathlon Retail and Bike Tech and a Honu Souvenir store will be open to everyone.
