VFW schedule announced
Veterans of Foreign Wars, VFW Post 12122 behind Kona Locksmith off Kaiwi Street will host several events this week.
A Relay For Life fund raising dinner of soup, salad and dessert will be served from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday. Cost is $10 and the public is encouraged to attend and help the fight against cancer.
Tacos will be served with salad and dessert from 5-7 p.m. Friday for $5. The community is welcome.
On Saturday, the Marine Corps League will hold their monthly meeting starting at 11:30 a.m.

Free community yoga class Wednesday
A free community yoga class will celebrate International Yoga Day Wednesday from 5-6:30 p.m. on the lawn at Hale Halawai.
Several teachers from different yoga traditions will co-teach the class and assist students. Refreshments will be available and there will be an assortment of prizes for some to win.
All levels of yoga experience are welcome.
OHA names several Hawaii Islanders Living Treasures
The Office of Hawaiian Affairs recently held its inaugural Na Mamo Makamae o Ka Poe Hawaii: Living Treasures of the Hawaiian People, an event that honored seven master practitioners and knowledge keepers. Several Hawaii Islanders were among those recognized at the Oahu event.
Hawaii Island Living Treasures awardees are Josephine Fergerstrom, who was recognized for lauhala weaving and Marie McDonald who was honored for lei making and kapa making.
This inaugural cohort of awardees also includes two posthumous recognitions of Elizabeth Maluihi Ako Lee for lauhala weaving and Abraham “Puhipau” Ahmad for videography and documentary.
These treasures were nominated and selected by a group of nine cultural experts and practitioners. While other organizations honor living treasures, Native Hawaiian organizations have not had their own program to honor kupuna, said OHA Ka Pouhana (Chief Executive Officer) Kamanaopono Crabbe.
