The Firehouse Gallery presents “Summer Fun” during the month of July.

Staying true to its historical heritage, the gallery will kick off the exhibit by having Waimea-based members of the Hawaii Fire Department and their fire engine at the gallery from 10 a.m. to noon on July 1. The fun will include touring and sitting on a real fire engine, fire safety prevention for kids and adults, and mini art projects for the youngsters. In addition, the Waimea Arts Council will provide free shave ice in various flavors until 1:30 p.m.

Starting Wednesday and continuing through July 29, the public is invited to check out local artist’s creations depicting fun and activities at Big Island beaches, Waimea’s Fourth of July rodeo, or the simple pleasures of a summer day. All WAC members are local artists and many different mediums will be represented, including paintings, jewelry, sculpture and much more.

The Waimea Arts Council is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the arts on Hawaii Island. The gallery, located at the crossroads of Mamalahoa Highway and Lindsey Road in Waimea, is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and Sunday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
