Charles Skinner

Charles Allan Skinner, 91, of Waimea, died April 21, 2017, at Hilo Medical Center. Born June 10, 1925, in Canada, he was a Hawaiian Airlines mechanic and an aerial photographer, a veteran who served in the Canadian Air Force during World War II and the United States Air Force during the Korean War and a member of the American Legion.

Skinner has no known living relatives. The attendance of fellow veterans and friends would be appreciated at his burial services scheduled for noon on July 12 at the West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 3 in Kailua-Kona.

Andres Layus

Andres “Andy” M. Layus, 89, of Hilo, died June 24, 2017, at his residence. Born Nov. 10, 1927, in Batac, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, he was a retired power house operator for the former Ka’u Sugar Co., a Korean War Army Veteran who held a service medal with two Bronze Stars and a member of Pahoa Church of Christ Iglesia Ni Cristo.

Friends may call from 10-11 a.m. on July 12 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel for an 11 a.m. service. The family requests that casual attire be worn. Flowers are welcome. Burial to follow at noon at East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2.

He is survived by wife, Teresita M. Layus of Hilo; daughters, Andrea Kunimura, Adeline Kamahele and Priscilla “Cilla” (Edward) Deperalta, all of Hilo, Pamela (Gene) Akamu, of Kona; son, Andrew Layus, of Hilo; sister, Quintina (Juanito) Tolentino, of Philippines; 17 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Alfred Harris

Alfred Akim Harris, 74, of Hilo, died June 19, 2017, at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a medical transcriber, professional musician and magician and a U.S. Navy veteran.

Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. on July 12 at the Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 7 p.m. service. Friends may also call at 9 a.m. on July 13 at the Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 for an urn committal service. The family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by brothers, Chris (Maile) Harris, Richard (Kaipo) Harris, Francis “Macky” Harris and Leroy Jason Harris, all of Hilo; sister, Winona Ipolani Hai-Kelly (Jordan) Rosado, of Pahoa; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Aaron Demello

Aaron Thomas Demello, 30, of Hilo, died June 9, 2017, at Maui Memorial Medical Center. Born April 7, 1981, on Maui, he was a Kirby Franchise owner.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on July 12 at Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary in Kaneohe, Oahu, for a service.

He is survived by grandmother, Else Demello; father, Adrian Demello Jr.; mother, Valerie Demello; brothers, Adrian (Melanie) Demello III and Michael Demello; nieces and a nephew; numerous aunties, uncles and cousins.
