Car show Saturday at Lanihau Center

Big Island hot rods, classics and sports car owners will be cruising into Lanihau Center in Kailua-Kona on Saturday to show off their unique vehicles and support the shopping center’s annual drive for school supplies for keiki in need.

The 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. free car show will feature dozens of restored and custom cars and trucks under the shady trees in the Lanihau Center parking lot closest to Henry Street.

Participants and spectators are encouraged to bring school supplies like backpacks, tablets, pencils and other needed items for keiki that may not have them for the start of the school year. Monetary donations will also be accepted at the Lanihau Center tent during the show. Distribution of the school supplies will be carried out by Neighborhood Place of Kona, Salvation Army and the foster care program.

Lanihau Center merchants, co-sponsor Transmission Technology and other supporting Kona businesses will be offering prizes during the event. The grand prize will be a $200 giveaway from Longs Drugs. Everyone making donations will receive drawing tickets.

Jaz, KAPA radio’s morning man, will be guest MC, providing music and calling out lucky ticket numbers for the giveaways that will be held every half hour.

For the keiki, there will be a free bouncer and climbing wall.
