Eleanor Carvalho

Eleanor De Coito Gomes Carvalho, 98, of Honokaa, died June 13, 2017, at the Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Ahualoa, she was a retired nut sorter with the former Hawaiian Holiday Macadamia Nut and member of the Honokaa Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. on July 22 at Honokaa Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church for a 10 a.m. Mass. Burial to follow at Honokaa Catholic Church Cemetery. The family requests casual attire be worn.

She is survived by sons, Joseph (Theresa) Carvalho, of Paauilo, and Richard Carvalho and Robert (Carol) Carvalho, both of Honokaa; daughter, Katherine (Manuel) Branco, of Hilo; sister, Mary Lou (Gilbert) Ferreira, of Pearl City, Oahu; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Tomasa DeVera

Tomasa “Terry” DeVera of Honoka’a died July 3, 2017, at the age of 85. Born in Honolulu on Dec. 14, 1931, in Honolulu, she was a retired hospitality employee of the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. July 22 at the Honoka’a United Methodist Church for a 10 a.m. service. Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Mauna Kea Memorial Park in Paipaikou.

She was preceded in death by her spouse Toledo DeVera.

She is survived by daughter, Verna (Roger) Caron; sons, Renato (Merlita) DeVera, Alvin (Terry Ellen) DeVera, Myles (Ammie) DeVera; sisters, Lucy Cho, And Phyllis Tindle; brothers, Bill Paliracio, Raymond Pader; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Adoracion Gancinia

Adoracion “Inday” “Ador” Sagolili Gancinia, 54, of Honokaa, died on June 15, 2017, at Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu. Born Feb. 20, 1963, in Cebu City, Philippines. She was a former worker for Watanabe Floral in Kamuela and a former worker for the Brantley Center in Honokaa.

Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. July 22 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Honokaa. Funeral service is at 11 a.m., with burial to follow at Honokaa County Cemetery.

Casual attire. Survived by, step-mother, Geraldine (Anthony) Domingo of Honokaa; brothers, Augusto (Cecilia) Gancinia of Honokaa and Mario (Cynthia) Gancinia of Honolulu, Oahu; half-brothers, Alberto (Carmen) Galarse of the Philippines and Gjim Patrick Gancinia of Honokaa; half-sister, Odessa Gancinia of Honokaa; one niece; two nephews; numerous grandnieces and grandnephews.

Anna George

Anna Geraldine “Totie” Kailiawa George, 52, of Pahala, died June 4, 2107, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Dec. 24, 1965, in Pahala, she was a Child Welfare Services resource caregiver and worked at American Guard Services, Mac Farms Macadamia Nut factory, Kai farms and Punaluu Black Sands Restaurant.

Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. July 22 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel for a celebration of life at 11 a.m. Casual attire and no flowers

She is survived by husband, Carlton P. George of Pahala; daughter, Tommie Jean George of Pahala; son, Lyndon (Amery Silva) George of Pahala; brother, Lincoln (Tessie) Kailiawa and Napoleon (Jana) Kailiawa of Hilo; sister, Jan (Ata) Kaleohano of Pahala; numerous in-laws, hanai family, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Henri Harte

Mr. Henri Harte, 97, of Hilo, died July 11, 2017, at the Hilo Medical Center. He was born in Jakarta, Indonesia, was a retired maintenance man and an avid tennis player. He was also a member of the Hilo United Methodist Church.

Friends may call from 4-5 p.m. at the Dodo Mortuary chapel July 22 for a 5 p.m. funeral service, followed by cremation. The family requests casual attire and that flowers be omitted.

He is survived by wife, Andreina R. Harte of Hilo.

Rosemary Maroliol

Mrs. Rosemary Maroliol, 48, of Kailua-Kona, died July 11, 2017, at her residence. Born in Yap, Micronesia on Oct. 27, 1968, she was a housewife and a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church.

Visitation will be 8 a.m. July 22 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hawi; mass at 10 a.m. and burial will follow in the Hawi County Cemetery. The family requests casual attire and flowers are welcome.

She is survived by her husband, Tony Abraham of Kailua-Kona; son, T J Abraham of Kailua-Kona; daughters, Rosalie Tewariram, Maerisin Abraham and Mary Conchita Abraham, all of Kailua-Kona; sisters, Pesenta Fagal of Montana, Casemera Polmal of Honolulu and Carmina Haret of Kailua-Kona; one granddaughter; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Donna Mukai

Donna Reiko Higaki Mukai, 60, of Hilo died June 24, 2017, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, she was a waitress for many restaurants, a homemaker, and a graduate of Hilo High School and attended Hawaii Community College.

Friends may call 10–11 a.m. July 22 at the Glad Tidings Church, 116 Kapiolani St. A celebration of her life will begin at 11. The family requests casual attire.

She is survived by husband, Bertram Mukai of Hilo; sons, Mattson Mukai of Las Vegas, Colton Mukai of Hilo; sister, Pearl Uratani of Hilo; mother-in-law; two brothers-in-law; sister-in-law; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Misako Hatami

Misako Hatami, 101, of Hilo, died July 3, 2017, at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Papaikou, she was a retired kitchen manager for the former Sumida Restaurant and member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin, Buddhist Women’s Association, Tenrikyo Mishima Kyokai, and Pomaikai Senior Citizens.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. July 23 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for an 11 a.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

She is survived by sons, James (Pat Tsumako) Hatami, Wendell (Janice) Hatami, of Hilo; daughters, Jean Hatami-Kogasaka, Marian (Ernest) Nagamine, of Hilo; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Joshua Watanabe

Joshua Taylor Watanabe, 18, died June 28, 2017, at home in Hilo. Joshua was born on March 31, 1999, in Honolulu.

He is survived by his parents; Darryl (Sabina) Watanabe and grandparents; Marjorie Watanabe, Constancia Tupas, Allen (Emily) Cheung; siblings, Samuel (Rochelle) Watanabe, Quintin Watanabe, Kelvin Magsipoc, and Kimberly Magsipoc; numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Memorial Service to be held at 3 p.m. July 23 Hilo Missionary Church, 1044 Komohana St, Hilo on July 23, 2017 at 2pm visitation, 3pm service.

Lorna Takizawa

Lorna Ann Laua’e Medeiros Takizawa, 68, of Honaunau died July 6, 2017, in Las Vegas. Born in Honokua, she was the founder and owner of Kona Hills Coffee LLC.

Celebration of life will be from 4-9 p.m. July 28 at St.Benedict’s Painted Church in Captain Cook. Mass is at 5:30 p.m.

She is survived by husband, Koichi Takizawa of Yamagata, Japan, son, Mark (Mika) Takizawa of Honaunau; daughters, Lori Ann Takizawa of Holualoa and Jennifer (C.J) Johnson of Las Vegas; sister, Violet (Albert) Mamac of Kailua-Kona; brothers, Clarence Jr. (Nellie) Medeiros, Roland (Melba) Medeiros, Jim Medeiros of Kona and David (Tori) Medeiros of Reno; 10 grandchildren; nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Junko Shiigi

Junko “June” Shiigi, 84, of Hilo, died July 1, 2017 at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Hilo, she was retired from the former Ben Franklin Store in Hilo.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

She is survived by husband, Richard Shiigi of Hilo; son, Craig (Adele) Shiigi of Hilo; brother, Motomu (Pauline) Sakai of Hilo; sister, Katsue Nishimura of Hilo; three grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
