St. John the Baptist Church plans bazaar

St. John the Baptist Church is holding a bazaar from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday in Kealakekua.

The event features baked goods, plants, fruits and vegetables, rummage items, and lau lau for sale. There will also be a keiki fish pond with school supplies for the children. All are welcome to attend.

Presentation on combating weeds Saturday

Melanie Bondera will present nontoxic ways to combat weeds at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Kailua-Kona Public Library.

Bondera has been gardening and farming organically for 15-plus years and will show you how she does it starting at 10 a.m.

Sponsored by Friends of the Libraries, Kona with the Community Seed Library, this program is free to the public.

Suicide prevention task force plans benefit

The West Hawaii Suicide Prevention Task Force will holds its annual Hawaii Island Suicide Prevention Task Force Benefit on Sunday at the Old Kona Airport Park’s Makaeo Events Pavilion in Kailua-Kona.

The event will run 1-6 p.m. and supports the task force’s efforts. There will be a dinner, entertainment, activities for the keiki and a silent auction.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for keiki; children younger than age 3 enter for free.

Residents earn degree from WGU

The following residents received their degree from Western Governors University. The university held its 33rd semi-annual commencement ceremony at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City on July 15 and celebrated the graduation of more than 10,000 graduates.

Craig Hanna, of Kailua-Kona, received his bachelor’s of science degree in nursing. Christine Bangay, of Waikoloa, received her bachelor’s of science degree in nursing.
