Isabelle Gomera

Isabelle Yvonne Hilua Gomera, 73, of Paauilo, died July 5, 2017, at her residence. Born April 26, 1944, in Kukaiau, she was a retired food and beverage supervisor and a hostess for the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel on the Kohala Coast.

Friends may call from 8-10 a.m. July 29 for a 10 a.m. Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa. Casual attire.

She is survived by husband, Lucino Salboro Gomera, Sr. of Paauilo; daughters, Stephanie Echavez of Florida, Katherine (Wendell) Paiva of Paauhau and Rochelle (Bryan) Hunt of Honokaa; sons, Lucino (Lisa) Gomera, Jr. of Kona, Brendan (Jamee) Gomera of Waimea, and Darren Gomera of Paauilo; brother, Emiliano Hilua of Arizona; sisters, Geraldine (Guy) Kishinami of Seattle, and Marcella (Shannon) Ah Hee of Waikoloa; sisters in-law; brothers in-law; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Robert Gomes, Sr

Robert “Bobby” George Gomes, Sr., 81, of Hilo and formerly of Pahala; died Saturday, July 1, 2017, at his home. Born on March 5, 1936, in Kona, he was a retired police sergeant, retired reserve police officer and a police commissioner for the Hawaii County Police Department.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. July 29 for a 10 a.m. service at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Pahala. Casual attire and no flowers.

He is survived by wife, Phoebe Gomes of Hilo; daughter, Celeste (Calvin) Fukuhara of Hilo; sons, Robert, Jr. (Donna Mae) Gomes of Hilo, Jeffrey (Wendy) Gomes of Hilo and Robin (Mari) Gomes of Honolulu; brother, Henry (Linda) Gomes of California; sister, Thomasina Gomes Foglioni of California; 17 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Stella Soltysik

Stella Irene Soltysik, 104, of Kailua-Kona, died July 19, 2017, at her residence. Born April 23, 1913, in Warsaw, Poland, she was a bookkeeper and artist. She was president of a Southern California Art Guild.

A graveside service and burial will be held at noon July 29 at Alae Cemetery in Hilo.

She is survived by her niece, Cynthia (William) Shade of Kailua-Kona; and a grandniece and grandnephew.

Kazumasa Taira

Kazumasa “Mac” Taira, 92, of Hilo, died July 12, 2017, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Wailea, he was a retired plumbing supervisor from the Department of Accounting and General Services.

Friends may call at 4 p.m. July 29 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 5 p.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn and no monetary gifts or flowers.

He is survived by sons, Edwin (Susan) Taira, Harvey Taira, both of Hilo; daughters, Kathleen (Charles Kuehu) Taira of Honolulu, Jere (Rick) Shimomura of Maui; brother, Gary (Jane) Taira of California; sisters, Janet Shimabukuro of Virginia, Sueko Hasama of Honolulu; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Asako Nakamura

Asako “Lorraine” Nakamura, 86, of Hilo died July 11, 2017, at the Hilo Medical Center. Born in Olaa, she was a retired sales clerk for the former Robert’s Bakery and Ebesu’s Florist and a member of the Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin.

Friends may call 8–9 a.m. July 30 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel; memorial service at 9. Casual attire. She is survived by husband, Ichiro “Bobby” Nakamura of Hilo; sons, Bobby (Barbie) Nakamura of Kona, Bruce (Leslie) Nakamura of Kona; daughters, Lorna (Willy) Misech of Hilo, Marsha (Walter) Nagai of Orchidland, Debra (Kevan) Tomono of Hilo, Yvonne Santos of Hilo; 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Daniel Miller

Daniel Benjamin Miller, 35, of Kailua-Kona, died July 12, 2017, at the Kona Community Hospital. Born Jan. 7, 1982, in Fairbanks, Alaska, he was a certified mechanic.

He is survived by his son, Logan Miller of Washington; daughters, Amanda Phipps of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Areirs Miller of Kailua-Kona; fianceé, Katelyn Forsdal-Watkins of Kailua-Kona; parents, Douglas and Sue Miller of Kailua-Kona; maternal grandmother, Grace Logan of Big Lake, Alaska; brother, Jon Miller of Kona; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
