Traffic signal upgrade planned on Kuakini Highway

The Hawaii County Department of Public Works Traffic Division will be working on the traffic signals at the Laaloa Avenue and Kuakini Highway intersection on Wednesday.

The work will take place from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. and involves installing wireless vehicle detection sensors in the roadway on all three approaches and programming the traffic signals to optimize traffic flow. The intersection will remain open and the Traffic Division will work on one approach at a time with an off-duty police officers directing motorists.

Motorists are advised to expect delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes.

Traffic safety committee meets Thursday

The Kona Traffic Safety Committee will meet from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Thursday to discuss traffic issues with public officials who can make a difference.

The KTSC meets the second Thursday of each month in the Mayor’s Conference Room of the West Hawaii Community Center in Kailua-Kona. All are welcome.

Vision speaker to offer advice

The West Hawaii Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind meets at 11:30 a.m. on Friday at Hale Halawai.

During the meeting, Will Friesen speak about how he manages his daily tasks, as well as being a coffee farmer in spite of his low-vision challenges.

The chapter meets every second Friday of the month at Hale Halawai.
