Writers to share work
Eight writers from the Hawaii Writers Guild will present works and answer questions on Monday at the North Kohala Public Library.
The Author Readings get underway at 6 p.m. It is free and open to the public.

FOLK Book Club meets Tuesday
Friends of the Libraries, Kona Book Club meets at 11 a.m. Tuesday on the Kailua-Kona Public Library lanai.
This month’s selection is “Honor Killing” by David Stannard.
“Honor Killing” is based in 1931, when a young socialite, the wife of a naval officer stationed in Honolulu, accused six islanders of rape. It set off a storm of racial controversy, but despite enormous pressure brought to bear by a corrupt police department, the U.S. military, the press, and business interests, the rape trial ended in a hung jury. The publicity-seeking mother reacted by arranging for the kidnapping and murder of one of the accused men. The sensational murder trial, which captured the attention of the mainland and the world, featured Clarence Darrow for the defense.
The club meets in September to discuss “A Man Called Ove” by Frederik Backman.

Writer’s Group meets Tuesday
The North Kohala Public Library’s Writer’s Group meets 10 a.m. Tuesday at the library in Kapaau.
Facilitator Eila Algood, a poet and writer, will moderate the meetings to give participants a chance to practice writing, discuss writing skills, share their work, enjoy useful feedback and share the joys and frustrations of the writing life. Writers of all levels are invited.
The group meets the third Tuesday of each month.
