Kazuo Fukumitsu
Kazuo “Uncle Kaz” Fukumitsu, 91, of Lanihau, died July 25, 2017, at Kona Community Hospital. Born July 10, 1926, in North Kona, he was a grounds maintenance man at the former Kona Village Resort, post office mail carrier, a coffee and macadamia nut farmer, a rancher, member of the Kona Hongwanji Buddhist Temple, Yamamoto Kenjin Kai and Keopu Kumiai and a U.S. Army veteran.
Friends may call at 4 p.m. on Aug. 14 at Kona Hongwanji Buddhist Temple in Kealakekua for a service. Interment with military honors will be at 9 a.m. Aug. 15 at West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery in Kailua-Kona. The family requests casual attire be worn.
He is survived by sons, Alden (Cheryl) Fukumitsu, of Kaupulehu, Winstanley (Lisa) Fukumitsu, of Kawaihae, Elmer (Lisa) Fukumitsu, of Lanihau, and Travis Fukumitsu, of Kealakehe; daughters, Christine Pajimola and Shawnte Fukumitsu, both of Lanihau, and Shaulei Fukumitsu of Ocean View; brothers, Yasuo (Edna) Fukumitsu of Keauhou, Kenji (Flora) Fukumitsu of Lanihau, and Isowo (Joanne) Fukumitsu, of Pearl City, Oahu; 9 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Patrick Pua
Patrick Pua, 71, of Paauilo, died July 21, 2017, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Nov. 23, 1944, on Maui, he was a stacker operator at the Hamakua Sugar Plantation and member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Papaaloa.
Friends may call at 10 a.m. on Aug. 16 at Homelani Memorial Park in Hilo for a graveside service.
He is survived by daughters, Valerie (Patrick) Cox, of Paauilo, and Patricia (Leroy Decosta) Pua, of Waimea; and brothers Chester Pua, Richard Pua and Larry Pua.

James Rizzuto
James Joseph Rizzuto, 78, of Waimea, died on July 2, 2017. Born March 2, 1939, in Trenton, New Jersey, he was a a teacher, dean of studies, head of lower and middle schools, and college counselor at Hawaii Preparatory Academy, author, writer and columnist.
Friends may call at 4 p.m. on Aug. 15 at Hawaii Big Game Fishing Clubhouse at Honokohau Harbor for a scattering of ashes and celebration of life.
He is survived by wife, Linda Rizzuto; children, Rahna Rizzuto, Leticia Rizzuto; and James Rizzuto; several grandchildren; one great-granddaughter.
Phillip Paranial
Phillip Eugene Paranial, 65, of Hilo, died July 14, 2017, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Feb. 8, 1952, in Hilo, he was an executive chef for the Hilo Hawaiian and Grand Naniloa hotels, and taught culinary arts at Hilo Community College.
Friends may call at 9 a.m. on Aug. 18 at Ballard Family Mortuary in Hilo for a service.
He is survived by brother, Charlie Paranial of Kona; and sister, Carol (Manuel) Laboy. of Oregon.

Frank Ferren
Dr. Frank A. Ferren, 78, of Kailua-Kona, died June 17, 2017, at his home. Born Dec. 17, 1938, in Lynn, Massachusetts, he was a physician, surgeon, 19-time Ironman competitor, and a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Friends may call at 4 p.m. on Aug. 19 at Hulihee Palace for a service. Friends may also call at 9 a.m. on Aug. 20 at Kamakahonu Bay, fronting King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel, for an outrigger canoe paddle out. Those not wishing to join on the canoes may view the paddle out from the end of the pier.
