Jeffrey Melrose

Jeffrey M. Melrose, 65, of Hilo, Hawaii died July 25, 2017, at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Care Center. Raised in Makawao, Maui, he was a land manager and planner for large land owners, including Kamehameha Schools and Amfac Hawaii, and ran his firm Island Planning. He also was a part-time lecturer in the Geography Department at University of Hawaii at Hilo and authored the Statewide Agriculture Land Use Baseline 2015.

A celebration of life will be 1 p.m. Aug. 27, at the Niaulani campus of Volcano Art Center.

He is survived by wife, Julie Hugo; daughter, Leah (Jeremy) Yim, and stepson, Patrick (Brandi Chew) Simmons; mother, Charlotte A. Melrose; brother, Ken (Maile) Melrose; sister, Anne Melrose; and 3 grandchildren.

Claire Riblett

Claire Leland Riblett, 62, of Ocean View, died July 25, 2017. He was born on Oct. 16, 1954, in Lincoln, Neb. He worked doing maintenance of commercial property.

Memorial services will be scheduled at a later date.

He is survived by wife Laura “Scooter”; daughter Codee Cruz of Ocean View; sister Carol (Del) Hart of Apache Junction, Ariz.; and one grandchild.

Alexandra Maria Freiler Cohen, 67, of Kealakekua, died April 24, 2017, at Kona Community Hospital. Born March 18, 1950, in Burgalben, Germany, she was a homemaker.

Dominique Kendron

Dominique D. Kendron, 54, of Naalehu, died July 24, 2017, at Hilo Medical Center. Dominique was born on Dec. 26, 1962, in Indiana. She was a teacher for 20 years until her retirement. Dominique taught locally at Konawaena High School.

She is survived by her daughter; Renae (Erbin) Deponte, Brother; Roark Kendron, and two grandchildren.

Kathe Baptista

Kathe Hildegard Baptista, 90, of Kailua-Kona, died July 19, 2017, at Nakamaru Hale in Holualoa. Born June 12, 1927, in Kutzen, Germany, she was a retired registered nurse and member of Kona Coast Church of the Nazarene.

Private service held.

She is survived by niece, Brigitte Schulze and her family in Germany.

Elena Barsanti

Elena M. Barsanti, 50, died on July 24, 2017, at her home in Keaau. A native of Wakefield, Massachusetts, she was born to Benito and Mary (O’Rourke) Barsanti on Aug. 12, 1966, the second of three children. Elena graduated from Wakefield High School in 1984, and from Emerson College in Boston in 1992. After college, she moved to San Francisco, where she worked in restaurants and cafes while painting in her spare time. In 2001, Elena moved to the island of Hawaii, and it became her home.

Services are being planned for Hawaii and for the east coast. Contributions should be sent to the Barsanti Family Scholarship Fund, c/o The Scholarship Fund of Wakefield, Box 321 Wakefield MA 01880.

Elena is survived by her partner of 20 years, Angela Racho, of Hilo; brothers, Robert P. Barsanti and Michael J. Barsanti, one sisters-in-law; six nieces and nephews.

William Brevoort

William “Bill” Harry Brevoort, 75, of Hawi, died July 28, 2017, at his residence. Born March 24, 1942, in North Hollywood, Calif., he was a retired businessman and a disciple of Venerable Master Hsuan Hua of the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas in Ukiah, Calif..

Private service held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to North Hawaii Hospice, 65-1328 Kawaihae Road, Kamuela, Hawaii 96743.

He is survived by wife, Peggy Brevoort of Hawi; daughter, Gretchen (J.B. Dickey) Brevoort; son, Joshua (Lisa Chun) Brevoort all of Seattle; brother, Bob (Lillian) Brevoort of Salem, Oregon; one grandson.
