Nancy Caravalho

Nancy Noelani Caravalho, 50, of Waimea, died July 17, 2017, at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in North Kohala, she was a waitress at the Hilton Waikoloa Village, formerly the Hyatt Regency Waikoloa.

Friends may call at 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 26 at Annunciation Catholic Church in Waimea for a 10 a.m. Mass. The family requests that casual attire be worn.

She is survived by sons, Isaiah Batino and Xavier Batino, both of Waimea; parents, Henry and Annie Caravalho, of Waimea; sisters, Nadine (Emrique) Kanekoa, of Kukuihaele, and Natalie (Edward) Texeira and Nonette (Raymond) Castro, both of Hilo, and Nanette Dill, of Waimea; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Esther Nelson

Esther Leinaala Nelson, 82, died July 21, 2017, at her Kawanui residence. Born Nov. 5, 1934, in Kealakekua, she was a homemaker, missionary, former Sunday school teacher and business owner.

She is survived by husband, Richard Nelson III, of Kawanui; children, Kaimookalani Muhlstein of Honolulu, Napela (Westly) Menor and Debbie Baxter, both of Kawanui, and Nakoa Nelson, of Kailua-Kona; sister, Emmaline Correa, of Honlulu; brother, Lanakila Roy, of Honolulu; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

William Panui

William Kalikolehua Panui, 88, of Keei, died July 11, 2017. He served with the U.S. Army and National Guard, Oahu Transit Service, Kamehameha Schools, Haleo, and taught Hawaiian language, culture, history and music.

Friends may call at 9 a.m. on Aug. 26 at Kahikolu Congregational Church in Napoopoo for a 10:30 a.m. service; light lunch to follow. Friends may also call at 9 a.m. on Sept. 2 at Kaneohe Congregational Church in Kaneohe, Oahu, for a 10 a.m. service; light lunch to follow. The family welcomes lei.

He is survived by wife, Namahana Kalama-Panui, of Kona; sons, William (Lori) Panui Jr., of Oahu, and Ellery (Melanie) Panui, of Washington; daughters, Bonnie (Ellsworth) Kalalau, of Washington, Julie Panui, of Oahu, and Kahokulani Kalama-Panui, of Kona; brother, Kunia (Lori) Kamealoha, of Oahu; several grandchildren; numerous hanai grandchildren, great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Gogo Taetuna

Gogo Taetuna, 76, of Milolii, died Feb. 5, 2017, at Kona Community Hospital. Born Aug. 21, 1940, in Amaluia, America Samoa, he was a retired maintenance man for Mac Nut Farms of Hawaii and bus driver for Yamaguchi Transportation at Hookena Elementary School.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. on Aug. 26 at the Milolii pavilion in Milolii village for a service. The family requests casual attire be worn and that flowers be omitted.

He is survived by wife, Elizabeth Taetuna, of Milolii; daughters, Cynthia Baeza, Pearline (Didja) Casuaga, and Teresa Taetuna, all of Milolii, Michelle (Faavesi) Fomai, of Lani Kona, and Valentina (Victor) Taetuna, of Keauhou; sister, Sally Rista, of Kalihi, Oahu; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mary Smith

Mary Diane Smith, 70, died Aug. 8, 2017, at her residence.

George Stegehuis

George Stegehuis, 93, of Kailua-Kona, died Aug. 4, 2017, at his residence. Born Feb. 22, 1924, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, he was a social worker and a U.S. Army veteran.

Private services were held.

He is survived by wife, Nancy Stegehuis, of Kailua-Kona; daughters, Colleen Figueroa, of Vancouver, Washington, and Nancy Stegehuis and Diana (Mahealani) Pai, both of Kailua-Kona; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
