WAIMEA — Last Wednesday, 90 students from Hawaii Preparatory Academy’s Junior Class of 2019 volunteered at Ulu La’au, the Waimea Nature Park. Four volunteers directed their activities, dividing the large group into four smaller groups so each could accomplish their own tasks.

One group went across the stream to the undeveloped portion of the park to haul cut branches to a large chipping pile directly behind Longs Drugs, while two groups worked on the developed side, hauling piles of cut branches to another chipping pile. The last group moved wood chips onto existing walking trails.

“All four groups accomplished much work and saved our park volunteers countless hours,” Arlene Block said, secretary of the Waimea Nature Park Advisory Committee. “Since we knew a month in advance they were coming, we had planned for these jobs and were busy cutting branches and other tasks up until the day before their volunteer day. Our board commends the class for their hard work and their interest in Waimea Nature Park. This class or any other is welcome to return anytime.”
