Volunteers needed for hale reconstruction

Volunteers are needed to assist with the reconstruction of Hale Nana Mahinaai, located adjacent to Ahuena Heiau at Kamakahonu Bay.

Ahuena Inc.’s group meets from 8-11 a.m. every Tuesday on the luau grounds of King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel.

This Tuesday, the group needs assistance with debarking the wood that will be used on the structure.

No experience required. Dress comfortable, as it will be warm. In addition, please bring gloves and a small tool to debark wood. If you do not have tools, there are some extras.

Police chief to address Rotary Club of Kona Mauka

Hawaii County Police Chief Paul Ferreira will address law enforcement challenges on the Big Island on Tuesday during the Rotary Club of Kona Mauna meeting in Honalo.

Ferreira joined the Hawaii Police Department in July 1982. During his career, he worked as a patrol officer and a detective and held several positions in the Administrative Bureau, including assistant chief, where he oversaw finance, human resources, training, safety, workers compensation, research and development, word processing, records and identification, communications dispatch, comm-unications maintenance, traffic services, the computer center and the non-tactical activities of the Special Response Team.

Meetings are held from noon-1 p.m. each Tuesday at Teshima’s Restaurant.

Cancer support group meets

Teshima’s Cancer Support Group meets at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Teshima’s Restaurant in Hanalo.

The group meets on the last Tuesday of the month. People newly diagnosed and cancer survivors, family members are all welcomed.

VFW announces week’s activities

Veterans of Foreign Wars, VFW Post 1212, plans the following activity this week:

Friday’s $7 meal will be onion burgers, salad and dessert with service from 5-7 p.m. The community is welcome to join.
