KWP Volunteer Day set for Sept. 8

Residents can deepen their connection with the aina by joining The Kohala Center’s Kohala Watershed Partnership (KWP) crew Sept. 8 for a morning of planting native trees such as hoawa, wiliwili, koaia, aalii and iliahi to reestablish and expand Kohala Mountain’s native forests.

The group will meet at The Kohala Center’s offices on Kawaihae Road in Waimea at 8 a.m. Bring a water bottle and sack lunch. Boots or sturdy shoes are required and rain gear is highly recommended. Be prepared for any kind of weather. Tools, gloves and cold drinking water will be provided. The outing will include a hike, exploring and a picnic. The group will return to Waimea by 1 p.m.
