HILO — Police are seeking witnesses or information about two vehicles vandalized this week at county beach parks in Hilo’s Keaukaha neighborhood.

According to police, at about 5:40 p.m. Thursday, two women caused extensive damage to a white Ford truck parked along the rock wall along the fish pond on the west side of James Kealoha Beach Park, which is more commonly known as “Four Mile.”

Police Lt. Darren Horio of Hilo Patrol Division said Friday the victim, who was present, told officers the women used baseball bats to damage the truck’s windshield, headlights and taillights, and to dent the body of the vehicle. He said the man “possibly” knew the women who damaged the truck “but he really couldn’t identify them.”

The other incident occurred between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Wednesday at Carlsmith Beach Park.

A black 2011 Hyundai sedan was also severely damaged while unattended in the parking lot near the bathrooms.

“The whole left side of the car was damaged. (The owner) wasn’t sure if it was from a car or something like that, but the whole left side was dented and scratched,” Horio said. “… All the door handles were knocked off, so it leads us to believe it was more than just an accident.”

Asked if anyone saw what happened, Horio replied, “We don’t know. Nobody came forward.”

Witnesses to either incident and individuals with information are asked to call the police nonemergency line at 935-3311. Those who prefer anonymity can call Crime Stoppers at 961-8300.

“We’re just looking for witnesses, somebody who can hopefully identify who the suspects are,” Horio said.
