HIBT looking for volunteers

HIBT is still looking for volunteers to help with this year’s tournament. Volunteers are needed Thursday, Sept. 7 through Sunday, Sept. 17 for a variety of tournament support including Kailua pier operations, pre and post-tournament set up and breakdown, headquarter administration, security and a whole lot more.

HIBT event headquarters, retail and tournament control will once again be anchored at Courtyard Marriott King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel, located adjacent to Kailua Pier. The 58th annual Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament will start on Saturday, Sept. 9 and run through Sunday, Sept. 17.

Kona Aquatics holding tryouts

The Kona Aquatics will be holding tryouts starting Wednesday for kids ages 7 through 11. For more information call 334-0083.

Learn to racewalk

Free racewalking clinics will be held at Old Airport Park’s Makaeo Walking Path on Sept. 9 and Oct. 7 at 9 a.m. The lessons are provided by Stan Chraminski. For more information email stanski@twc.com.

Kupuna fall softball

The Kupuna Fall Softball league will begin Sunday, Sept. 10. Interested men and women 50 and older are invited. Games will be help on Field A of Old Airport Park staring at 9:30 a.m.

Youth Basketball Clinic

Big Island Sports Academy will host a basketball clinic for boys and girls between the grades of 4 and 6 at the Panaewa Park Gym in Hilo on Sept. 16 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The clinic is designed to provide basic concepts in all facets of basketball skill development, with an emphasis on the fundamentals and will be led by Coach John Livsey

Current and former members of the men’s and women’s basketball Teams at the University of Hawai’I Hilo will be on hand during the day to assist.
