National Federation of the Blind to meet

The National Federation of the Blind, West Hawaii Chapter, will meet at 11:30 a.m. on Friday at Hale Halawai.

Jack Dixon, a retired chemist, will talk about using Android phones and tablets, with application, to help those with vision loss. Google Home device to aid with daily activities will also be discussed.

‘Suicide Survivor Vigil’ Friday

The West Hawaii Suicide Prevention Task Force is holding a “Suicide Survivor Vigil” at 5:30 p.m. on Friday at Honls Beach on Alii Drive in Kailua-Kona.

Friends and family members are invited to attend this sunset candle-lighting event. Attendees are encouraged to bring photos to share. Restrooms and parking available across Alii Drive from the beach.

Caregiver sharing group meets

Hawaii Community Caregiver Network is sponsoring a family caregiver sharing group from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at Regency at Hualalai in Kailua-Kona.

The group provides a forum for family caregivers to share their stories, seek information about community resources and find support among other caregivers. The discussion will focus on how to handle challenging behavior by first looking at oneself. There is no charge to attend, however, seating is limited.

Korean War Veterans Association gathers Saturday

The Korean War Veterans Association of West Hawaii Chapter 279 meets at 10 a.m. Saturday at The Kona Vet Center, 73-4876 Kamanu St., in Kailua-Kona.

Membership is open to any person who has seen honorable service in any of the Armed Forces of the United States, defined as Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard if said service was within Korea, including territorial waters and airspace, at any time after Sept. 3, 1945, or said service was outside of Korea between June 25, 1950, and Jan. 31, 1955. Associate members are also welcome.
