There was no shortage of offense between Lanai and Ka‘u in an 8-man contest on Saturday, with the Pinelads pulling out a 90-58 win over the Trojans in a touchdown-filled affair.
According to ScoringLive, the game was the highest scoring high school contest in Hawaii high school history. It surpassed Liberty’s (Nev.) 76-53 win against Mililani in 2015 in Las Vegas. However, there is an asterisk, with the record-breaking number coming in an 8-man game.
Regardless, both team’s defensive coordinators will likely go back to the drawing board after allowing the deluge of touchdowns.
No stats were available from the game, but according to the Trojans’ Twitter feed, Lanai scored seven touchdowns of at least 30 yards, including two kick returns. Ka‘u’s (1-2 overall, 0-1 BIIF) scores came exclusively on the ground, with Isaiah Pilanca Emmsley notching five touchdowns for the Trojans.
In the other 8-man contest of the weekend, Pahoa kept up its winning ways, knocking off Kohala 32-6 on Friday night.
Keala Harris scored on a pair of touchdown runs for Pahoa, which moved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 against BIIF opponents. In two BIIF games, the Daggers have outscored their competition 64-14.
Kohala scored its only touchdown with all zeros on the clock in the fourth quarter, when Ryan Juan-Kealoha plunged into the end zone on a 5-yard run. The Cowboys (0-2, 0-4) are still seeking their first win of the season.
