Zumbathon Sept. 30

More than a dozen Zumba instructors from around the island are joining in support of West Hawaii Child and Family Service to help promote domestic violence awareness, particularly toward children.

“Shine the Light” Zumbathon, presented for the second year in a row by Dance 4 Action (local Zumba instructors Ronnie Claveran, Alex Mitchell, Renee Morinaka, and Rod Watai), will be 6-9 p.m. Sept. 30 at the Kona Imin Center, 76-5876 Hawaii 180, Old Government Road, in Holualoa.

Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door with net proceeds going to Hawaii Child and Family Service. Monetary donations also accepted online. Individuals or businesses interested in donating to the prize giveaway may email Dance4Action@gmail.com.

Dance for Parkinson’s underway

From 12:30-1:45 p.m. Thursdays, the Summer Series of Hawaii Dance for Parkinson’s in Kona meets. The class will be offered at Hale Halawai, 76-6224 Alii Dr. Free. Drop-ins are encouraged.

No dance experience necessary, all levels can start anytime in the series! Caregivers/family/friends are welcome to join in the fun!

Seniors 55-plus invited to Akamai Living Fairs

The Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation is pleased to invite seniors 55 years and older to attend this year’s Akamai Living Fairs in Hilo and Kona.

These free events will feature health screenings, seminars, vendors, entertainment and door prizes. The Akamai Living Fairs are co-sponsored by the County of Hawaii Department of Parks and Recreation’s Elderly Activities Division and HMSA.

• Hilo: Edith Kanakaole Multipurpose Stadium from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Oct. 20

• Kailua-Kona: West Hawaii Civic Center from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Nov. 3

Dancing for peace Oct. 8

Dances of Universal Peace will take place from 6-7:30 p.m. Oct. 8 at the New Thought Center in Kealakekua.

It celebrates moving in the moment while singing sacred phrases of the myriad spiritual traditions that grace the Earth. They generate life-energy and the peace that passes all understanding.

The movements and meaning of each dance are taught first, then the group moves in unity.
