Everyday lifesavers lauded
This past Thursday at Kahaluu Bay we were once again reminded of the bravery, talent and caring attitude of our lifeguards. A lady in the water was in distress. The reaction was immediate. She was quickly pulled from the water and within moments one of the crew began CPR.
I happened to be in the water right in front of the place on the beach where they were tending to her. She was literally brought back to life. The entire team was professional and focused. They were all, in a word, amazing.
Although this type of rescue isn’t needed every day, we should all be thankful for the lifeguards that are there to literally save our lives. These men and women have to be ready at a moment’s notice to react without regard to their personal safety. I’m sure the visitor and her friends and relatives are beyond grateful. As with all our public servants we sometimes take them for granted.
I want to add my public gratitude to this team and all their colleagues that service the public in quiet and heroic ways.

Where is our councilman on this mess?
We hear about the ongoing fiasco about the water well situation with no disciplinary action taken against the culprits who supposedly run the Department of Water. Then we have the broken glass walls to the bus stations in Kahaluu that have been broken almost a year ago and still haven’t been replaced.
Of course, why we need bus stations with any walls in Kona is also mysterious and kind of Third World-like.
Where is our Councilman Dru Kanuha on all this? Mum as a mouse as usual. And he wants to represent the people as a senator. Baloney! I’d rather have a guy like Tim Richards who is seen and heard by his constituents.
