Water options are out there
Being retired and fairly inactive, I like to watch varying sources of news. After Hurricane Irma, the U.S. Navy docked an aircraft carrier in Miami.
I heard three different reporters, the secretary of the Navy and the captain of the ship say that the ship could produce 100,000 gallons of pure drinking water per day.
Maybe there is a good source of water we need to look at.

County work deserves praise
Too often we only hear about what the county workers aren’t doing. To the work crew and their supervisors that cleaned up the Kealakehe walking trail, a big mahalo from the community and the kids that use this trail to get to the high school.
What a great job you did and I can hear you guys right now finishing up. The trail feels much safer now that the brush is all cut back and even the dogs are enjoying it more! (Side note: Pick up your dog poop!)

Nicer amenity should be goal
Do we really want a Holiday Inn Express at Henry Street and Queen Kaahumanu Highway?
The Kailua Village Design Commission should get together with the Chamber of Commerce and try for a step up. Why not bring in a Marriott Courtyard and/or a like but higher-degree of lodging — hotel that would bring in more revenue and enhance our surroundings?
We could use another local spot with nice dining facilities in town. The economy would certainly support it and so would the local community. Professional landscaping and upkeep provided by the hotel would certainly be inspiring.
