Support group gathers Tuesday
Teshima’s Cancer Support group that meets on the last Tuesday of the month will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Teshima’s Restaurant in Hanalo.
People newly diagnosed with cancer and cancer survivors welcome. Caregivers and family members also welcome.

Kona Mauka Rotary speaker Tuesday
The Rotary Club of Kona Mauka will hear from Charmaine Kamaka, Director of Parks &Recreation, on Tuesday.
The Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation provides administrative and organizational support services to all the parks and the department’s programs and services. This includes the diversified recreation program that addresses the needs and interests of the respective communities in a safe environment with zero tolerance for illegal drugs and violence. Kamaka grew up on the Hamakua Coast and earned her BA in psychology, minoring in occupational safety &health from the University of Hawaii at Hilo.
Meetings are held each Tuesday at Teshima’s Restaurant from noon – 1 p.m.

Practical Skills for Relationship Fitness workshop set
Are you sick and tired of important conversations going sideways and increasing emotional distance? In this mini-workshop you will learn skills and simple steps that bring understanding and connection into your most challenging conversations.
This is the third workshop in the series, Practical Skills for Relationship Fitness, offering skills and tools for transforming reactivity and conflict over differences.
The series is led by Andrea Pro, a Certified Nonviolent Communication coach and trainer who enjoys working with people who are ready to get unstuck from relationship pain and conflict, and to create healthier relationships characterized by deepening authenticity, emotional safety, intimacy and trust. AAUW-Kona gathers Sept. 26
On Sept. 26, the American Association of University Women-Kona will kick off their 2017-2018 season of events at the West Hawaii Civic Center in Hale G. The featured speaker will be Dale Ross, first deputy prosecuting attorney for the County of Hawaii. She will share her experiences working to protect women and children from human trafficking.
This meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. and is open to the public and especially to those interested in joining AAUW. There is a special rate for national dues offered to anyone who attends.

Hawaii Tropical Fruit Growers to meet
The next meeting of the West Hawaii chapter of Hawaii Tropical Fruit Growers will be 6-9 p.m. Sept. 25. This special meeting is part of the 27th annual Hawaii International conference and feature three guest speakers:
1. Dr. Ed Stover from the USDA citrus research laboratory in Ft. Piece Fla., talking about the dangers of citrus greening disease and how we can work to keep it out of Hawaii.
2. David Karp from the University of California Riverside on the history and genealogy of citrus.
3. Lindsay Gasick from Year of the Durian
There is a $10 fee for members to help with speaker costs. Non-members are welcome to join at the door and all are encouraged to bring fruit for tasting.
