I thoroughly enjoyed Frank Dickinson’s satirical letter in Tuesday’s WHT in that it was so filled with irony and sarcasm that it gave me a really good laugh, and when times are a little crazy and tense, laughter can indeed be the best medicine.
His first zinger is when he refers to institutional racism, social oppression, and the murdering of unarmed American civilians by government employees, i.e. the police, as “something totally idiotic.” Those silly African Americans worrying about such trivial and idiotic issues. Great use of sarcasm, Mr. Dickinson! That got me chuckling right out of the gate.
His next joke is a little tired, but still a goody. It’s the media’s fault that Trump comes across as a misogynistic, bigoted, intellectually lazy, narcissistic bully! In reality Trump is a brilliant, caring, empathetic, humble human being who wants only the best for this country. Hilarious!
By far his best use of satire and the one that got me laughing loudest was when he states that “finally we have an actual man in the White House instead of a divisive leader.” I am guessing that Mr. Dickinson had to be laughing pretty hard as well as he was typing these words. Oh, the irony! I am still chuckling at this one as I write my letter.
The only part of his letter that had me a little confused is when he completely trashes the people of Hawaii, their beliefs, and the politicians making decisions in this state. For me personally, as someone who moved here from another part of the country many years ago, I have found the people of this state, and in particular of Hawaii Island, to be the most kind, generous, respectful, and helpful people I have ever encountered in my life, in any part of the world. It is why I still live here and feel absolutely blessed to be here.
My question for you, Mr. Dickinson, if you feel the people of this state are such chumps, and their basic beliefs are so far off the mark bringing you so much frustration, why do you live here? Honestly, from the reaction that Mr. Trump received for his speech in Alabama the other night, perhaps that would be a better part of the country for you to reside?
Anyway, thanks again for the laughs. It brightened my morning.
