Hunting info meeting Friday

State of Hawaii Game Management Advisory Commission — West Hawaii District Commissioner Jon Sabati will be hosting an informational meeting for hunters 6:30 p.m. Friday at the CFHT Office in Waimea, next to the Carter Professional Center, 65-1238 Mamalahoa Highway.

He will be sharing the function of the GMAC, the Wildlife Revolving Fund Report, information on hunting areas in the West Hawaii District and receiving input and concerns from the hunting community.

Doug Simmons will be there seeking input from the hunting community for the EnVision Mauna Kea Program.

Elderly services classes starting up

Elderly Recreation Services Tai Chi classes begin Monday. Classes run in 10-week sessions through Dec. 8, open to anyone 55 and older. Registration fees are just $10 per session and can be paid to the instructor on the first day of class.

Join this beginner series of classes providing exercises to improve center and balance. West Hawaii Civic Center Gazebo, Tuesdays 9 a.m., Yano Hall, Wednesdays, 9 a.m., Hale Halawai, Thursdays, noon, and Fridays at 9 a.m.

Due to Ironman Village, locations for the Hale Halawai classes will be as follows:

Thursday, noon, Hale Halawai

Friday, 9 a.m., West Hawaii Civic Center, Council Chambers

Oct. 12, noon, Old Airport Events Pavilion

Oct. 13, 9 a.m., Old Airport Events Pavilion

Classes resume at Hale Halawai the week of Oct. 16.

Hawaii Writers Guild Presents Author Readings

The Hawaii Writers Guild will present an evening of original readings by local authors from 5:30-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Thelma Parker Library, 67-1209 Mamalahoa Highway in Waimea.

The Guild is an independent association of professional writers engaged in the promotion of literacy and cultural enrichment. It presents Lit Nite, an evening of stories and poetry, on the first Wednesday of every month. The readings are free and open to the public.

A previous listing in West Hawaii Today stated an incorrect hour.
