VFW events listed

The following activities are scheduled this week for Veterans of Foreign Wars, VFW Post 12122, located behind Kona Locksmith off Kaiwi Street.

The activities committee will meet at 10:30 a.m. today.

The Post opens today at 2 p.m. for the football game.

The $7 Friday meal will be onion burgers, salad and dessert with service from 5-7 p.m. The community is welcome to join.

At 11:30 a.m. on Saturday is the VFW meeting starting. All veterans who served on foreign and awarded a campaign ribbon are invited to join their fellow comrades.

On Sunday, the Post opens at 10 a.m. for football.

STEM Academy hosts Fall Exhibition

Kealakehe STEM Academy hosts its 2017 Fall Exhibition, showcasing innovative and problem-solving designs as envisioned and created by these ambitious high-school students on Tuesday. A brief that ran in Saturday’s edition contained the incorrect date.

Join the future leaders of America in this unique open-house setting. Hosted at the Kealakehe High School’s cafeteria and U Building from 5-7 p.m. Families and community supporters — including those who do not have youth that attend KHS — are invited to experience this educational and fun-filled evening joined with a “Tacos Tuesday” fiesta.

The event is free; donations will be accepted.

Lions Club planning weekend food drive

The Kailua-Kona Lions Club will be collecting nonperishable food donation for The Food Basket, Hawaii Island’s lone food bank, this weekend in Kailua-Kona.

Members will be collecting items from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday at the KTA Super Stores on Palani Road.
