Annie Ravey

Mrs. Annie Quihano Ravey, 91, of Hilo, died Sept. 13, 2017, at her residence in Hilo. Born Oct. 24, 1925, in the District of Ka’u, she was retired from the State of Hawaii as a lunch room supervisor at Chiefess Kapiolani Elementary School in Hilo.

Visitation will from 9:30-10:30 a.m. be Oct. 20 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel in Hilo from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., for a 10:30 a.m. funeral service. Burial will follow at noon at East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery. Casual attire.

She is survived by sons, Joel (Jan) Ravey of Waipahu and Felix Ravey of Honolulu; daughters, Joanne (Tad) Tamala of Hilo, Beverly Leilani Gonsalves of Hilo, Winona (Michael) Hooser of Waikoloa, Annette (Giles) Nakamoto of Hilo and Dennilu “Ipo” (Poncho Sampedro) Carvalho of Kohala; brothers, Thompson Quihano of Kalapana, Frank (Noe) Quihano of Nanakuli, Joseph (Bertha) Quihano of Honolulu, Raymond (Ulu) Quihano of Pahoa, Floyd (Noe) Quihano of Kalapana; sisters, Rebecca Pau of Pahoa, Starlight Kaopuiki of Nanakuli and Lucy Scullion of Aiea; hanai daughters, Milo (Keiti) Nau of Hilo and Kelly (Kahulu) Pearson of Maui; 25 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Harry Chow

Harry Maun Chow, 87, of Waimea died Oct. 2, 2017, at home. Born in Pahala, he was an assistant controller for Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, former member of the Waimea Lions Club, volunteer for North Hawaii Community Hospital and a U.S. Marine Corp veteran.

No funeral services. Urn committal at a later time.

He is survived by wife, Dorothy Chow of Waimea; daughters, Catherine Wehrman of Honolulu, Lori (Leslie) Hasegawa of Honokaa, Wendi (Gary) Yada of Las Vegas, Aimee (Carl Treadwell) Chow of Menlo Park, Calif., one granddaughter, one grandson, brothers and sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Michael De Los Santas Pacana

Michael “Mike” De Los Santas Pacana, 64, of Hilo, died Oct. 4, 2017, at his home. Born July 6, 1953, in Salinas, Calif., he was a former maintenance worker for CARE Hawaii.

Services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by life partner, Cheryl Jorgensen; children, Arik (Andrea) Pacana, Melissa (Kurrent) Pacana, Florence (Greg) Pacana Awai, Mikalani (Roberto) Awai Che and Salinas (Dezmond) Pacana Awai; siblings, Michelle Sarlo, Marvin (Elizabeth) Pacana and William Hackett; 15 grandchildren.

Gilbert Castro

Gilbert “Gelly” Cariaga Castro, 60, of Hilo, died Oct. 4, 2107, at Hilo Medical Center. Born Oct. 26, 1956, in Batac, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, he was a landscaper for the Fairmont Orchid Hotel in Waikoloa and a member of First United Protestant Church in Hilo.

Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. Oct. 16 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel for a 7 p.m. wake service. Friends may call again fom 9-10 a.m. Oct. 17 at the First United Protestant Church,1350 Waianuenue Ave in Hilo for a 10 a.m. funeral service. Casual attire, with burial at Homelani Memorial Park (Ilima Section).

He is survived by wife, Rachel Solmerin Castro of Hilo; daughter, Raella Ann (William) Black of Spokane, Wash.; son, Gil Christian Ryan Castro of Hilo; mother, Crisenta Castro of Philippines; sisters, Emely Castro of Honolulu and Editha (Jim) de la Cruz of California; brothers, Norbert (Elvie) Castro and Edilbert (Sheila) Castro of Philippines; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Gladys Uyehara

Gladys Miyoko Nakata Uyehara, 85, of Hayward, Calif., died Sept. 10, 2017, at her residence. She was born in Ookala. Private services held.

She is survived by husband, Minoru Uyehara of Hayward, Calif.; son, Gary (Evelyn) Uyehara of San Ramon, Calif.; sister, JoAnn (Rodney) Kinoshita of Laupahoehoe; brothers, Katsuichi Nakata of Honolulu, Richard Nakata of Honolulu, James Nakata of Ookala; two granddaughters.

Mariano Ubilas

Mr. Mariano Udarbe Ubilas, 90, of Kapaau, died Sept. 23, 2017, at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born July 5, 1927, in Magsingal, Ilocus Sur, Philippines, he was a kitchen utility worker at the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a U.S. Army veteran.

An all night vigil will he held at 6 p.m. Oct. 19 at the family’s residence, 54-2451 Kynnersley Road in Kapaau. Visitation will also be held at 8 a.m. Oct. 20 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hawi. Mass will be at 10 a.m. followed by burial in Hawi County Cemetery. Luncheon and fellowship will be held at Father Damien’s Hall. Casual attire and flowers are welcome.

He is survived by his wife, Macaria Ubilas of Kapaau; sons, Jerome (Anela) Ubilas of Waikoloa, and Larry (Renely) Ubilas of Maui; daughter, Virginia DeLoach of Kawaihae; hanai daughter, Angie Alcoran of Kapaau; brother, Anulfo (Angelita) Ubilas of Philippines; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
