Antone Basque

Antone “Tony” Basque, 74, of Hilo, died Sept. 30, 2017. Born in Hilo, he was a retired sergeant with the Hawaii County Police Department in Hilo. He was also a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Friends may call from 8:30-10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church Oct. 25, where a Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., followed by burial at the East Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2. Casual attire. Flowers welcome. He is survived by son, Dean Basque of Honolulu; daughters, Tania (Todd) Taniguchi of Honolulu and Marla (Tommy Andujar) Basque of Utah; brother, John Basque of Kona; sisters, Isabella “Dooley” (Ben) Di Fatta of Los Osos, Calif., Anita (Clement) Andrade of Volcano, Marianna (Manuel) Soares of Hilo, Frances Medeiros of Hilo and Rita Lovato of West Hills, Calif.; one sister-in-law; two granddaughters and one grandson; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

John Hamacher

John Joseph Hamacher, 67, of Kailua-Kona, died Oct. 10, 2017. Born in Los Angeles, he worked as a construction contractor in the San Francisco Bay Area and retired in 2004 and moved to Hawaii with his wife and son. He joined with four other fellow retired volunteers as a team helping non-profit groups with small construction projects.

A celebration of life will be 3-5 p.m. Nov. 5 at the Kona Educational Center. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of Kona or your favorite non-profit are appreciated. Online condolences may be posted on www.ballardfamilymortuaries.com.

He is survived by spouse, Mary; son, Stephen Hamacher of Denver; daughters, Staci (Andrew) Bajuniemi of Walnut Creek, Calif.; Linsey (Trevor) Rogers of Tillamook, Ore.; sister, Donna Fischer of Grants Pass, Ore.; brother, Michael (Arlene) Hamacher of Los Gatos, Calif.; two grandchildren; and several cousins and in-laws.

Harold Rapozo Jr.

Harold Rapozo Jr. 67, of Mountain View, died at his residence. Born on Kauai, he was a heavy equipment mechanic and Navy veteran who served in Vietnam.

Committal services will be at 2 p.m. on Oct. 20 at Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery, 45-349 Kamehameha Highway. A celebration of life for Oahu ohana and friends will be 3 p.m. till pau Oct. 21, at Fitted Warehouse, 754 Pohukaina Street, Honolulu.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Muggy) Irvine-Rapozo of Puna; sons Keola (Bailee) Nakaahiki of Honolulu, Kumai Irvine of Hilo; daughters Leila (Duncan Jr.) Castro of Hilo, Raynette Kaopua of California, Momi Rapozo of California; brothers Joseph Rapozo of Kauai; sisters Diane Basque of Oahu, Charlene Sherwood of Hilo, Julie Rapozo of Oahu, Bernadette Rapozo of Oahu, Sheena Archer of Oahu; and eight grandchildren.

Donna Stickel

Donna Marie Stickel, 67, of Volcano, died Sept. 24, 2017, at Hospice of Hilo’s Pohai Malama Facility. Born on June 1, 1950 in Newton, New Jersey, she was a retired chef for numerous restaurants and the founder of Friends Feeding Friends in Volcano. She was also a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Hilo.

Private services will be held at a later date.

She is survived by, husband, Terry Stickel of Volcano; brother, William King of New Jersey.

William Collins

William “Braddah Craig” Craig Collins, 58, of Hawi, Kohala, died Oct. 14, 2017, at the Kohala Hospital. Born in Florida, he was a handyman.

Dean Fukuyama

Dean Fukuyama, 66, of Hilo, died Sept. 23, 2017, at Hilo Medical Center. Born on July 22, 1951, in Honolulu, he was retired from Department Of Water Supply for the County Of Hawaii, a member of Word Of God Church, and a veteran of the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.

Vistitation will be from 4-5 p.m. Oct. 28 at New Hope Christian Fellowship in Hilo with a memorial service starting at 5 p.m. and fellowship to follow. Casual attire. Online condolences: www.homelanimemorialpark.com.

He is survived by wife, Leona Fukuyama of Hilo; son, Jason (Paula) Fukuyama of San Francisco; daughter, Lauren (Justin) Roque of Oahu; mother, Ruby Fukuyama of Arizona; sisters, Mavis Fukuyama of Arizona and Valerie (Ted) Chinen of Arizona; and three grandsons.

Roy Higa

Roy Shigeo Higa, 91, of Pepeekeo died Sept. 27, 2017, at his residence. Born in Pepeekeo, he was the retired owner of Tradewind Flowers on Oahu, member of Honomu Henjoji Mission, Macadamia Nut Association, American Legion and a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II.

Private services held. Family requests no flowers and no koden.

He is survived by wife, Ethel Higa of Pepeekeo; son, Randall Higa of Pepeekeo; daughter, Joyce Higa of Pepeekeo; grandson, Lawrence Higa of Seattle, Washington; also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
