KVA hosts Volley-Boo Tournament
The Keauhou Volleyball Association is hosting a weekend-long, Halloween-themed volleyball tournament, with proceeds benefiting the Kona Community Hospital Cancer Treatment Center.
The Volley-Boo Tournament will be held Oct. 27, 28 and 29 on the Coconut Grove Marketplace sand court. The games, including Ghoul of the Beach (Kings of the Beach) and Co-Ed 4’s will start at 2 p.m. on Friday, and 9 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
The KVA is donating a portion of the proceeds to the KCH Cancer Treatment Center in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. KCH Cancer Center staff will be on-hand to provide breast cancer education information.
Join the fun at this family-friendly event. Teams will dress in pink during 2×2 games and in costumes during the 4×4 games.

Waimea Bike Fest
Big Island Bike Tours will host the second annual Waimea Bike Fest on Sunday, Oct. 29 at the Anna Ranch Heritage Center. The event will start at 9 a.m., rain or shine.
The free event includes a LavaKids Trail Run, PATH Bike Rodeo, Keiki Exploration Bike Ride, Strider Keiki Races (ages 2-12) and a Halloween Pumpkin Hunt. To register visit lavakids.org.
Kona Jongwanji Judo Club hosting fishing tourney
Kona Hongwanji Judo Club will be holding their annual Ulua Fishing Jackpot Tournament Nov. 3-5 with weigh-ins taking place from 3-4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 5 at the Kona Hongwnji Social Hall. The tournament is open to adults 18-and-over. Everyone is welcome to watch the weigh-ins. Entry deadline is Oct. 27.

BIRC Couch to 5K
Big Island Running Company is offering a free Couch to 5K training program at the Alii Drive store.
This 9-week program is designed to take beginners from the couch to finishing the Jingle Bell Beach Run on Sunday, Dec. 17 at Coconut Grove Marketplace. No prior running experience is necessary.
Runs will take place on Tuesday and Thursday at 5 p.m. and Saturday morning at 6:30 a.m., although runs can be completed individually as well.

Kona CC hosting fundraising golf tourney
The Kona Country Club will host a golf tournament to help raise money for the local women’s shelter on Oct. 29 starting at 8 a.m. Entry fee is $65 per person and registration will begin at 7 a.m. Entry fee includes golf, range, morning snack, heavy pupu and prizes. Entry deadline is Oct. 22.
IKL Karate Championship
The 13th annual IKL Karate Championship will be held on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Kealakehe
High School Gymnasium.
The event is hosted by the Kona Branch of the International
Karate League.
IKL Branches from Hilo, Paauilo, Honokaa, Waimea, North Kohala, Waikoloa, Captain Cook, Kailua-Kona, Pahala, Keaau, Oahu and California will be attending the event.
A special guest, the Founder and Chief Instructor of the IKL, Shihan (Master) Walter K. Nishioka, who splits his time between Hawaii and the mainland, will be presiding over the event.
The tournament will feature competition in Kata (forms), Kumite (sparring), and Kobudo (weaponry) for children, teenagers and adults.

West Hawaii Verterans Fall golf tourney
The 2017 West Hawaii Veterans Fall Golf Tournament and silent auction, sponsored by the American Legion Kona Post 20, will be held Saturday, Nov. 5 at the Makalei Golf Course. Entry fee is $90 per person, or $75 for Makalei Club members for a round of golf, cart, practice balls, two mulligans and lunch. There is a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
Proceeds will fund programs that assist veterans with disability benefits claims, Veterans and Memorial Day observances, funeral details, care packages for deployed Hawaii service members, Legion’s National Emergency Fund for disaster relief such as Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, local High School JROTC programs with awards and scholarships, Boy Scout Troops, annual oratorical scholarship competition with local schools, and other community projects such as Adopt-A-Highway, homeless stand downs and more.

BISA holding benefit golf tournament
Big Island Sports Academy will host the Challenge at the Big Island Country Club, a benefit golf tournament on Friday, Nov. 10. Proceeds will go to support sports career educational opportunities for boys and girls on the Big Island, which includes annual scholarships, career exploration camps, internships and workshops.
The tournament will have an 8 a.m. shotgun start with a $150 per person entry fee. Sponsorship opportunities are also available.

HCC hosts Out-n-Back Training Time Trial
On Sunday, Nov. 19 the Hawaii Cycling Club will host the Out-n-Back Training Time Trial/Sunday Ride starting at 7 a.m.
This is the sixth annual 19.5 mile Out-n-Back Training Time Trial. A non-competitive Sunday Ride will start shortly after the last time trial competitor.
Registration is from 6:30 to 6:45 a.m. on Pukiawe Street off of Kaiminani Drive.
The Out-n-Back starts at Kaiminani Drice and Queen Kaahumanu Highway, then travels North 13.5 miles to the 80 mile marker, makes a U Turn and returns to the 86 mile marker.
This event is free to 2016/17 and 2017 Hawaii Cycling Club members. Non-members will pay a $10 one-day membership fee. he annual membership fee is $20.
Participants and volunteers will gather at The Talk Story aid station after the event for food and beverages.
