Rainfall was steady in Kailua-Kona through the middle of the week as flood advisories were issued across Hawaii Island.
According to the National Weather Service, Kailua-Kona saw 1.22 inches of rain on Tuesday and 0.55 inches of rain Wednesday as runoff caused ponding in parts of town and left nearshore areas under brown water advisories.
Chevy Chevalier, meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said Honaunau had received the highest rainfall totals on the island on Wednesday, registering 4.82 inches by 4:30 p.m.
He added rain was expected to continue in Kailua-Kona through Wednesday night, but the forecast for Thursday was mostly sunny with no showers expected.
Chevalier said another front is likely to move in this weekend, bringing some precipitation with it.
“It looks like another round of showers Saturday and maybe Sunday,” he said. “But it doesn’t look like it’ll be nearly as much as what we saw the last couple days.”
