Register for 24th annual Charity Trees at Mauna Lani
Mauna Lani Bay Hotel &Bungalows invites local organizations and charities to participate in the 24th annual Charity Trees at Mauna Lani, planned for the upcoming holiday season. This special event helps to raise awareness and funds for local nonprofit organizations.
Dec. 1 is the entry deadline, so organizations have plenty of time to create their holiday tree decorations. The Charity Trees will be displayed in Mauna Lani Bay’s lobby Dec. 8-28.
Community members, resort guests, employees and friends and family are invited to view the entries and vote for their favorite tree ($1 donation per vote). Winners will be announced Dec. 22, and Mauna Lani Bay will award cash prizes to the organizations whose trees receive the highest number of votes: $2,000 (1st place), $1,000 (2nd place) and $500 (3rd place).

Elks gives to Auntie’s Angels
Jan Benlein, executive director of Auntie’s Angels Big Island Keiki-Kupuna Food Program, a domestic nonprofit organization in Kona, was recently given $1,500 by the local Kona Elks Lodge 2616.
The funds are a special one-time grant authorized by the Elks National Foundation and is called an Anniversary Grant, which celebrated the 150th anniversary of the National Elks. The local lodge applied for the grant through its Grants Committee, chaired by Korrie Beemer. Beemer has also applied for and been granted two more grants for local application in the Kailua Kona area.
First Hawaiian raises $50K for Harvey
First Hawaiian Bank announced Friday that its Aloha Relief for Harvey Fund has raised $53,627.
The bank established the fund to assist the American Red Cross in its efforts to help the thousands of residents who were devastated by Hurricane Harvey on Aug. 25. First Hawaiian Bank donated the first $25,000 to the fund and its 62 branches located in Hawaii, Guam and Saipan, served as community donation collection points from Aug. 31 through Sept. 30.
All contributions to the Aloha Relief for Harvey Fund were donated to the American National Red Cross to assist the relief efforts.
