Holualoa Village holds its monthly First Friday Art After Dark event 5:30-8:30 p.m. Friday with new art in a dozen galleries, free live music in multiple locations, and gourmet grab-and-go food served up by a half-dozen vendors.
Dovetail Gallery welcomes Big Island-based ceramicist Suzanne Wang, who recently returned from Mashiko, Japan, after following a one-year apprenticeship with master potter Ken Matsuzaki, a leading figure in modern Japanese ceramics. While in Japan, Wang created a collection of work using her teacher’s clays, glazes, and firing methods. A selection of these items will be for sale at Dovetail Gallery where people can meet the artist and learn more about her work.
Holualoa Ukulele Gallery will be displaying new instruments, as well as hosting First Friday regulars, The Mauka High Notes playing a medley of classic, contemporary, rock, Hawaiian and whatever the crowd might request.
Glyph Art Gallery welcomes renowned woodturner Cliff Johns to the gallery, which now features a selection of his work. Included is the magnificent Cook Island pine bowl that won best in show at the 2016 Hawaii Woodworker’s Show in Honolulu.
Inside Holualoa Gallery owner/artist Matthew Lovein will be showing new ceramic work while William Wingert will be painting.
Pat Pearlman Designs will be featuring this month’s birthstone, citrine. It’s radiant yellow and gold energy is an aid to manifestation and is excellent for self- healing, inspiration and self-improvement.
Koa Realty will be hosting Ray Kester and Friends, playing songs from the 1950s to current hits.
