Health insurance registration encouraged

The Legal Aid Society of Hawaii encourages Hawaii residents without health insurance to find affordable coverage through the Health Insurance Marketplace.

Hawaii residents who currently have marketplace plans from this past year should update their information in their Marketplace accounts. Open enrollment is Wednesday to Dec. 15. After Dec. 15, residents can enroll in Marketplace plans only if they qualify for special Enrollment. coverage begins as late as Jan. 1.

Residents without health insurance coverage may face a fine on their tax returns.

Free solar water program open

Hawaii County Economics Opportunity Council (HCEOC) is accepting applications for the weatherization assistance program (WAP) that offers free solar water heating systems, energy star refrigerators and energy efficient kits.

Kits includes LED bulbs, EPA approved aerators and shower heads. The program prioritizes services to seniors, families with young children, people with disabilities, households with high energy usage, and families experiencing a high energy burden. Weatherization Assistance Program eligibility is income-based, families with at least one household member receiving TANF or SSI benefits is encouraged to apply by Dec. 15.
