James Campbell

James Marion Campbell, 93, of Pahoa, died Oct. 22, 2017, in Hilo. Born in Indiana, he was a retired consultant, U.S. Navy veteran, and member of Puna Hongwanji Mission.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

He is survived by stepsons, Kenneth Hayashi of Wahiawa, Oahu, Norman Hayashi of Hilo, Calvin (Cary) Hayashi of Pahoa; stepdaughters, Hazel (Owen) Nakano of Hilo, Joy (Rodney) Akiyama of Kaneohe, Oahu.

Kiku Sakoda

Kiku Sakoda, 95, of Pahoa, died Oct. 14, 2017, at the Life Care Center of Hilo. She was born in Kumamoto, Japan and was a homemaker and a member of the Puna Hongwanji Mission and the Pahoa Higashi-Machi Kumiai.

Friends may call 4-5 p.m. Nov. 7 at the Dodo Mortuary chapel for a 5 p.m. memorial service. Casual attire and no flowers.

She is survived by her daughters, Ethel (Carl Nishimura) Deguchi of Hilo, Janet Ikeda of Pahoa, Doris (Jake) Bender of Sharpsburg, Md. and Elsie Sakoda of Honolulu; two daughters-in-law; 18 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Vernon Dede, Jr

Vernon Dede, Jr., 56, of Kailua-Kona, died Oct. 28, 2017, at his home. Born Nov. 4, 1960, in Bossier City, La., he was the owner of a Kwik Kar automotive repair shop in Bedford, Texas, and an Ironman finisher in Houston.

A celebration of life and potluck will be held from 2-4 p.m. Nov. 5 at the Kona Vistas Recreation Center at Pualani and Lako Street in Kailua-Kona. Casual attire and no flowers.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Dede of Kailua-Kona; son, Wes (Jenna) Dede of Las Cruces, N.M.; mother, Else Dede of Keller, Texas; sisters, Diana (Allan) Heinle of Denver, and Patricia (Paul) Larmon of Colleyville, Texas; brother, Robert (Deanna) Dede of Keller, Texas.

Duane Erway

Mr. Duane Donald Erway, 83, of Kailua-Kona, died Sept. 13, 2017, at the Regency at Hualalai. Born in Nebraska in 1934, he was a retired electrical engineer for Xerox. He was a board member of Plan to Protect Kona.

Private services were held.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Erway, and son, Donald Erway.
