Noreen Spencer
Noreen “Keala” Kealaonaona Spencer, 69, of Pahoehoe, died Oct. 31, 2017, at Nakamaru Hale in Holualoa. Born July 31, 1948, in South Kona, she was homemaker, former housekeeper for Kona Lagoon Hotel and assistant supervisor for Kona Coffee Cooperative in Napoopoo. She was also a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She is survived by sons, Emil (Morgan) Spencer III of Waiohinu, Aukake Spencer; daughter, Nalani Spencer both of Pahoehoe; hanai sons, Thaddeus (Tina) Haalilio of Kealia, Rudy Haalilio of Honaunau; hanai daughter, Kainoa (Melvin) Palea, III of Ocean View, Aloha Reeves of Napoopoo; sisters, Charlotte Rodrigues of Honalo, Nellie Takahashi of Makakilo, Geraldine Rivera of Holualoa, Jasmine Angeleo of Las Vegas, Henri-Ann (Morris) Nagata of Captain Cook; brothers, Arnold (Frances) Haalilio of Papaikou, Wilfred (Maggie) Haalilio Sr. of Honaunau, Jeffrey (Theresa) Haalilio, Sr. of Ocean View, David (LorrieAnn) Haalilio Sr. of Kealakekua; hanai sisters, Nancietta Haalilio of Kealia, Harriet Haalilio of Pearl City, Blossom Sapp of Ocean View; hanai brothers, Jewett (Regina) Spencer of Kealakekua, William (Gabriel) Lucas of Ocean View; four grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Mitsuo Hasegawa
Mitsuo Hasegawa, 88, of Hilo, died Oct. 17, 2017m at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Hilo, he was a retired Command Sergeant Major of the Hawaii Army National Guard, Headquarters &Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 299th Infantry, former Scout Master for the Boy Scouts of America Troop 31 and member of the Big Island National Guard Retirees Association, Iwalani Street Kumiai and the Orchid Isle Dance Club. He was also involved in numerous community service projects and was the recipient of the Legion of Merit and the Meritorious Service Medal.
Friends may call at 3 p.m. Nov. 11 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for a 5 p.m. service. Cremation follows. Private urn committal service at a later date at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.
He is survived by wife, Ethel Yukie Hasegawa of Hilo; sons, Reginald Hasegawa of Hilo, Earl (Cheryl) Hasegawa of Wailuku, Maui; daughter, Leila (Glenn) Furutani of Honolulu; four grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Helen Tayamen
Helen K. Tayamen, 80, of Waiohinu, died Oct. 27, 2017, at Care Center of Kona. Born in Waiohinu on Feb. 20, 1937, she was a planter crewman for Ka’u Sugar. She was a cashier at the Luzon Store.
Visitation will be held at 8 a.m. Nov. 11 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Ka’u Ward in Naalehu; funeral service at 11 a.m. followed by burial at the Naalehu County Cemetery. The family requests casual attire and flowers are welcome.
She is survived by her husband, Prudencio Tayamen of Waiohinu; son, Harlan Tayamen of Naalehu, Clayton (Connie) Tayanem of Mountain View, Afton (Sylvia) Tayamen of Holualoa, and Galen Cajigal of Honolulu; daughters, Tessie (Floyd) Paeyerneers of Anderson, Calif., Adele Tayamen of Missouri, Thelma (Walter) Bacxa of Holualoa, and Janelle Costa of Kailua-Kona; 24 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Amante Viernes
Amante Viernes, 78, of Kailua-Kona, died Oct. 16, 2017, at his residence. Born in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, Philippines on Sept. 29, 1939, he was a taxi driver for A &L Taxi. He was a houseman for the Mauna Kea Beach and King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach hotels. He was a dishwasher at the former Kona Surf Resort and a laundry attendant at the Royal Kona Resort, and a member of the ILWU.
Visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 11 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Kailua-Kona; 11 a.m. Mass with burial to follow at Kona Memorial Park in Holualoa. The family requests casual attire and flowers are welcome.
He is survived by his wife, Leticia Viernes of Kailua-Kona; sons, Dominic Cacal and Alvin Viernes of Kailua-Kona; daughter, Aleli (Perry Kealoha) Viernes of Kailua-Kona; brothers, Romeo (Esther) Viernes and Andres (Rosario) Viernes, all of the Philippines; half brothers, Steven (Brenda) Viernes of Kohala, and Jay (Bonnie) Viernes of Austin, Texas; six grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
