WAIMEA — In addition to need-based financial aid available to all families at Parker School, three need and merit-based scholarships are available for the 2018-19 school year.
The Simperman Scholarship of Academic Excellence is a new scholarship for Parker School students. It is aimed at students in the community who are high-achieving but unable to afford an independent school education. The scholarship provides students with up to 100 percent of tuition for the duration of their time at Parker School. It is available to students entering grades 6-12, with a significant financial need, a strong academic record and unusual leadership qualities or strength of character.
The Ulu Pono Scholarship is a grant awarded to new students entering grades six, seven or eight at Parker School. It covers 75 percent of annual tuition for students with demonstrated need. The awards are given in recognition of a student’s academic merit, character and exceptional demonstrated passion in an area of interest to the student, such as sports, the arts, a community organization such as a church or cultural activity, or any other area that is meaningful to the student and in which their participation is notable. The scholarship is renewed each year of the student’s time at Parker School based upon academic progress, good citizenship and upholding the school’s code of conduct.
The Richard Smart Merit Scholarship is a grant awarded to students entering Parker School high school. The award covers 75 percent of annual tuition and are given on the basis of exceptional academic merit and potential with significant consideration given to financial need. Students applying to attend Parker School are eligible to apply. The Smart Scholarship renews each year of the recipient’s high school career based upon excellent academic progress and an exemplary disciplinary record.
The school’s scholarships will not be given in addition to standard need-based financial aid, but in lieu of it. The deadline to apply is Feb. 5, 2018. Applicants will be notified of decisions in March.
